No buffer (freezer and storage) means gaps. Of course the management dolts don’t understand the cost of empty shelves both on current and future lost revenue.

If I make a trip to the supermarket to get something, and they're out and I have to go elsewhere, I'm less likely to go there in the future.

I would dare say a few of Whole Foods stores are Union shops. Say like the ones in NYC and Chicago. This might be a Union busting tactic.

Who knows why.

When the bean counting MBA’s start controlling any business, they can destroy that business quickly.

Walmart uses both JIT and their warehouse, and they still can have some out of stocks.

Our local Walmart uses other Companies’ JIT stockers all the time. Sometimes there are more JIT stockers on the floors restocking than Walmart people. That was true yesterday.

I don’t have to walk past many, many aisles of stuff I don’t buy

Exactly. Sprouts doesn't have everything I need. But almost everything. Fresh veggies, excellent meats and great prices.

I used to buy from Amazon ALL THE TIME!

Eventually, I got pretty much everything that was unique to them and sloughed off... now there are a couple things I need from them, but not much at all.

I worked for Kroger divisional office in Madison, Wis when I was 17. Later in life, I worked as a grocery checker in the biggest chain in So Calif.

IF they are not going to fill shelves from stocks in the back room, I want to see pictures of where they are going to shelve a whole SEMI trailer of Toilet paper.

This is just plain nuts.

In the weeks rolling into Thanksgiving, I have seen the meat department continuing to refill the frozen turkeys into the cases in the aisle.

How many trucks will be sitting in their back parking areas???

Someone has their entire head & neck up their own backsides.

The executive who made this decision should be fired, lose their golden parachute & NEVER be allowed to be in the grocery business ever again——EVER.

This new policy was started prior to the chain’s recent purchase by amazon.

Yes, it can be a challenge reading all the way to the second line of the excerpt.

There is a Sprouts across the street from a HUGE, modern Safeway. Going into the Safeway can be bewildering. Heaven help you if what you need is on the other side of the store. I like the compact, simple Sprouts a lot.

That’s interesting. Walmart has inhouse mod crews that periodically reset aisles in stores. It’s an ongoing process using the plan sent out from Bentonville. Walmart does use an outside company to do inventory once a year. I’ve never seen outside stockers. Even with a Telezon, it takes a new Walmart stocker time to learn how to stcok. Some stuff is stocked only by outside vendors like Coke, Pepsi, Nabisco, magazines, name brand chips and bread.

Ah, yes...JIT! I was part of the “6 Delta” scam at a large company (aim to make just three mistakes for every million transactions). The company went bankrupt. Six Delta also went bankrupt.

I seriously doubt that. They are not stupid people and acquired a lot of seasoned grocery execs in the acquisition. They know the importance of fully stocked shelves to brand identity. There is something else at work here that we are not seeing.

So they should be rebranded as “Partial Foods”...

>Why does the San Francisco store have doors protecting the food?

Protecting from heat. Because it’s a refrigerator.

As Mark Twain once said..."The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco."
