As with all historic tipping points, it seems inevitable in retrospect: Of course it was the young people, the actual victims of the slaughter, who have finally begun to turn the tide against guns in this country. Kids dont have money and cant vote, and until now burying a few dozen a year has apparently been a price that lots of Americans were willing to pay to hold onto the props of their pathetic role-playing fantasies. But they forgot what adults always forget: that our children grow up, and remember everything, and forgive nothing.
Those kids have suddenly understood how little their lives were ever worth to the people in power. And theyll soon begin to realize how efficient and endless are the mechanisms of governance intended to deflect their appeals, exhaust their energy, deplete their passion and defeat them. But anyone who has ever tried to argue with adolescents knows that in the end they will have a thousand times more energy for that fight than you and a bottomless reservoir of moral rage that you burned out long ago.
Like most people in middle age, I regard young people with suspicion. The young and the young at mind tend to be uncompromising absolutists. They havent yet faced lifes heartless compromises and forfeitures, its countless trials by boredom and ethical Kobayashi Marus, or glumly watched themselves do everything they ever disapproved of.
I am creeped out by the increasing dogmatism and intolerance of millennials on the left; I felt a generational divide open up under me last year when everyone under 40 seemed to agree that Dana Schutzs painting of Emmett Till in his coffin should be removed from the Whitney Biennial.

At 18 your answers are based on Academia, what you learned in school, not life experiences.
But, of course, he won’t off himself. He wants YOU to off yourself.
Worthless piece as always. The New York Times is pathological on race, sex and age.
They now refuse to allow my comments which were clean, appropriate...but against the zeitgeist.
...”I do believe that the socialist young will prevail in creating a hell they never envisioned.”...
I am afraid you are right.
The Nation of Facebook won’t like what it sees in the mirror but it will not always have been that way.
It is not the “young” but the twisted powers like Soros that will manipulate them.
Yes , like they did in Venezuela.
The people are starving in Venezuela right now. There is not enough food , medicines etc. The same happened in all socialist states
SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED
Then again the previous administration and educrats said that our Constitution is not worthy of being a model for other nations or worth preserving itself.
What’s with his tiara ?
Millenials who are turning 18 this year are the last of that meaningless name.
It does not describe a generation, it defines a marketing demographic. That is all. Their parents and schooling are from different generations and centuries.
Television IS a “learning” tool. Especially if you want to be misinformed.
1: Abolish Tenure. The schools are leftist Indoctrination camps.
2: Economic Freedoms. Once these kids are out in the workforce permanently, they’ll see the light Every time they look at the Tax Deductions ground out of their paychecks.
2A: Any of them that try to start their own business will get Really woken up in a heartbeat by all the heavy handed regulations and Govt. persecutions.
“At 18 your answers are based on Academia, what you learned in school, not life experiences.”
I remember high school in the 50’s when some of the teachers were pushing the line that “there is only one race...the human race” - as we were all snickering. It seems subsequent generations have zero ability to believe their lying eyes.
Yes, you are 100% correct. That's what my sister and I believe, too. The problem with this decades-long slide to totalitarianism is the gradualism. The leftists have planned this take place across multiple generations. When a generation dies out, all memories of the way things used to be die with it. Freedom and liberty are not taught from a leftist textbook. Today's generation has grown up with visceral fear of not saying a politically incorrect thing lest their career and entire life be lost. It was never this way before.
So, these 16 year old kids think they should be allowed to vote. Reminds me of a short story I read ESQUIRE years ago, WILD IN THE STREETS.
What will be next? Carousel from LOGAN’S RUN?
My own daughter (yes!) told me a couple years ago that her generation is waiting for our generation to die so they can remake the world “correctly.” My God, what have we come to? Never in a million years would I have conceived of such a thing when I was 30 years old.
After the mass slaughter and imprisonment, how long will it take for the Second American Revolution to throw off the self-imposed shackles? It took 70 years for the Soviet Union to finally blow up and even today the vestiges of communism are very strong. Two generations were lost and today’s people don’t know how to live in a free society.
I can take you right now to Facebook groups, Twitter feeds, Youtube videos, etc of Antifa activists threatening to kill, beat up, bully and harass people like me.
And now politicians who support Antifa want to disarm me?
He's a Princess?
Nothing but a gussied up version of the Hitler Youth without the snappy Outfits.
They are even beyond Anarchists, they are full fledged out of control Totalitarian Useful Idiots.
These little wankers think their lives are worth so little to the power now wait until the citizens are disarmed. The 2A and Constitution understanding legally armed people, the very people that hate, are the only people keeping these snot-nosed little brats safe.
