Millennials blame boomers for ruining their lives
Axios ^ | 4-25-2018 | Steve LeVine

Posted on 04/25/2018 4:10:27 PM PDT by Sir Napsalot

Beset by big college loans, inheriting two wars, and facing an uncertain future of work, a majority of millennials say baby boomers have made things worse for them — and a lot of boomers agree, according to a new Axios/SurveyMonkey poll.

Why it matters: If it persists, the generational divide could turn into political rivalry as the generations compete for limited tax dollars — millennials seeking government help as automation takes hold, and boomers insisting on promised levels of Social Security and Medicare.

The poll found that 51% of millennials (18- to 34-year-olds) blame boomers (51- to 69-year-olds) for making things worse for their generation. Just 13% said boomers had improved things. Generation X wasn't pleased with the boomers, either.

(snip)

Among suggested ways to improve matters now, millennials said:

* "Remove all old government officials and term limits for the House and Congress," a 34-year-old male Republican said.

* A number said "Impeach Trump" and "vote."

* "Sleep more because you will be less sensitive to negative emotions," said a 22-year-old female Democrat.

I also build furniture. 😜 Built our kitchen island, our fireplace mantel, some Adirondack chairs for daughter, a clubhouse bed for my 2 smaller grandsons, and a few other things. I like having a project.

If the Boomers are to blame why do THEY know how to change light bulbs whereas a poll of Millennials found many couldn’t?

= = =

The new Mech. Engineers we hired didn’t/couldn’t change their car oil.

They are NOT MEs.

Yes, boomers are largely responsible for the mess we’re in. They’re correct there. What they need to do is get involved to fix it.

Thinking back on car engine compartments designed years ago and what some (that I can’t afford so I take other folks word on it) are like now imagine the engine compartments that we may see in the coming years?

Some time ago I came across something on Boat Deign forums about a guy that had to have, IIRC, his yacht’s engines repaired ... and not a major repair mind you: they had to completely take out the engines because that part was on the side with no access.

Yeppers, so am I. And in my career I’ve worked two jobs plenty of times. Worked 80 hours weeks for six month at a stretch. Worked another six month period with a day off. Never was unmployed and always worked in high stress jobs.
Made mine and I’m keeping it. Paid the max soc. So sec. (20 qtrs) by the time I was 26.
Busted my a$$, so did my wife.
Never needed any safe spaces. So whether millennial or snowflake you can bugger off.

It’s all good. It’s just I’ve heard it a million times in the 15 years we’ve owned our boat. And yes, everything about them is expensive.

Hubby’s dad insisted he was going to school to become a lawyer. Hubby ran off and joined the army instead. Lol. After that he became a firefighter.

For advancing socialism, sure. But the “greatest generation” contained many who applauded as FDR kicked governance by constitutional means to the curb and Eisenhower rubber stamped it.

Cancers don’t seem like the fatal disease they may become if you don’t cut them out early and make life style changes (repeal and walking away from socialism in this case) but just because they may seem manageable that doesn’t mean they aren’t the exact same disease that kills.

Actually, we boomers did not start the nonsense majors, it was our parents and even grandparents; these crazy majors were already in the college catalogs by the time we started college. This nuttiness started in the hippie 60s. However, we are to blame of course, because we continued and increased the leftist nonsense. Although the boomer parents are called the greatest generation, deservedly so, because of their bravery and courage fighting WW-2, they did not stand strong against the socialist left, allowing them complete academic freedom due to their strong belief in freedom of speech, but what they did not realize, and should have, was that once the godless communist left gained the majority, they in turn would not tolerate freedom of speech. There has always been a kind of blindness where the left is concerned, we have never fully realized how evil it is, and I guess we will not, until it is too late as history has shown us over and over again, as nations such as Russia, Cuba, and China have learned all too well.

It is interesting too, that we boomers are aware of what is happening to the millennials and voting conservatively, the foolish young are making things worse for themselves by voting democrat.

Educational Fraud Continues
Walter Williams

https://patriotpost.us/opinion/55531-educational-fraud-continues

Earlier this month, the 2017 National Assessment of Educational Progress, a.k.a. The Nation’s Report Card, was released. It’s not a pretty story. Only 37 percent of 12th-graders tested proficient or better in reading, and only 25 percent did so in math. Among black students, only 17 percent tested proficient or better in reading, and just 7 percent reached at least a proficient level in math.

The atrocious NAEP performance is only a fraction of the bad news. Nationally, our high school graduation rate is over 80 percent. That means high school diplomas, which attest that these students can read and compute at a 12th-grade level, are conferred when 63 percent are not proficient in reading and 75 percent are not proficient in math. For blacks, the news is worse. Roughly 75 percent of black students received high school diplomas attesting that they could read and compute at the 12th-grade level. However, 83 percent could not read at that level, and 93 percent could not do math at that level. It’s grossly dishonest for the education establishment and politicians to boast about unprecedented graduation rates when the high school diplomas, for the most part, do not represent academic achievement. At best, they certify attendance.

Fraudulent high school diplomas aren’t the worst part of the fraud. Some of the greatest fraud occurs at the higher education levels — colleges and universities. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 70 percent of white high school graduates in 2016 enrolled in college, and 58 percent of black high school graduates enrolled in college. Here are my questions to you: If only 37 percent of white high school graduates test as college-ready, how come colleges are admitting 70 percent of them? And if roughly 17 percent of black high school graduates test as college-ready, how come colleges are admitting 58 percent of them?

Continues...

You can’t always help what happens to you but you can help how you react to it.

Most kids these days, whatever their label, just need to be responsible for their own lives and quit blame-shifting their way through life.

And if they are in debt, learn how to budget, live within your means, and pay off the debt.

My kids are essentially debt free out of college, some of it due to their circumstances, but a lot of it due to them learning to be responsible with money.

And they are learning even faster living on their own and earning their own money.

Boomers are the worst generation so far. Anythig you say bout the ones after them can be attributed back to the boomers directly or by extension.
