Interesting, I tried an Advantage program but left after one year. The program promised a lot but had many restrictions about how often your could go in for whatever. They also restricted the meds and I was constantly having to see the doctors about a modification because they changed the drugs that they would cover.
I also found that some doctors were not thrilled to see me. This changed when I left the advantage program, but the cost of the advantage program was significantly lower than the regular plan I am on now. But the Docs never have a problem giving me an appointment.
All depends on which plan and which primary doctor. My Humana HMO plan doctor is happy to prescribe any medications I want (which is none) plus she wants me to take cholesterol control & blood pressure meds which I really do not need since I exercise regularly and I am strong as a horse at age 78. No pains, no aches, no complains anywhere in my beautiful athletic body hahaha.
In the past before reaching Medicare age, I have had bad HMO’s and good HMO’s...mostly based on who is the primary doc assigned to you. But you can request changes of your primary doc.

Could you please tell us the name of the insurer so we know who to avoid?
