Avoid Winchester Cathedral, it will only bring you down.

Have fun!

It would be nice if you gave us a report when you return.

if you’re going British Airways and are traveling coach, check out the BA “World Traveler Plus” class of service. You get a seat and space that are essentially what you get in domestic U.S first class for about 80% more than you’d pay for coach. I’ve done it twice and it’s well worth the additional cost.

I'm actually flying business class on American. I booked it with points, I could never afford to fly that way paying cash!

Another place to visit is Temple Church (Knights Templar). I tried to visit it in 2007, and it was closed due to renovations. The whole place was enclosed in scaffolding. Sir William Marshal, 1st Earl of Pembroke is buried inside. He’s been touted as history’s greatest Knight.

Do you like a onion and cheddar sandwich? Pork pie? *shudder* We found an amazing Indian restaurant in Nottinghamshire ( rather rough town really )which had the best food we were to find on our three week trip ( other than breakfast ) I had the WORST time trying to find food that didn’t revolt me in England. Seriously. I was ready to eat American dirt and be grateful.

Take the water taxi down the Thames to Greenwich. The Cuty Sark and Gypsy Moth IV are right on the river front near the landing. The Royal Naval College and Hospital are nearby, with the Queen’s House behind, on the edge of Greenwich Park.

Near the Cutty Sark site, a circular building contains the entrance to the Greenwich foot tunnel, opened on 4 August 1902. This connects Greenwich to the Isle of Dogs on the northern side of the River Thames. The north exit of the tunnel is at Island Gardens,

The Queen’s house was built for Anne of Denmark, the wife of King James 1. James 2 was born there. An interesting bit on the house; it was built over a main highway of the time, so they included a tunnel underneath to accommodate the highway. The National Maritime Museum is through a portico on one side of the Queens House.

The old Royal Observatory is on a hill in the park. The line marking Greenwich Mean time is marked by a ‘gold’ rod set in the floor.

All of this is do-able in one day, if you start early and don’t dawdle.

Be aware of celebrating hooligans if Liverpool wins the Champions league.

Go to te Tower of London, and enjoy the Beefeaters’ Tour describing, in detail, how the beheadings were done in Henry VIII’s time. Be very sad they dont do this any more,. Resolve to suggest adopting this idea it to your congresscritter when you return home

I’d want to visit the Abbey Road cover shot spot. Then maybe book a night at Fawlty Towers.

For food and refreshments:

The Grenadier is a fantastic pub; in Knightsbridge; probably my fave...

And Lamb & Flag in Covent Garden is a close second

Can't go wrong with Indian or Fish and Cips
