ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Luther Younger walks everywhere.
For the past two weeks, the 98-year-old Korean War veteran has walked about 6 miles each way to visit his wife of 50 years, who is paralyzed and at the hospital, Spectrum News Rochester reported.
I aint nothing without my wife, Younger told Spectrum New Rochester. Its been a rough pull. Its been tough.
(TWEET-AT-LINK)
He was walking in the rain Tuesday when he got help from a passerby.
I had to pick him up and I couldnt be one of the ones who would just drive by, Dan Bookhard told Spectrum News Rochester.
Youngers kids said walking is a way of life for their father.
My dads always walked. He says he does it to stay alive, Luthta Younger told Spectrum News Rochester. He still says, Nope I have to get out there to my wife. I have to go.
I assume, from the context, that Luthta would drive her father to the hospital if he would allow her to.
When I go to visit family in Alabama, I like to walk the rural roads and just about every fifth car offers me a ride (because they are so polite there). When I tell them I want to walk, they give me a strange look. This is because walking down a road is not normal there.
Here in the city, it is normal for people to walk and I've never been offered a ride.
True Love!!!
Prayers up for this Man and His Wife.
Im not even sure what else to say...
PING!!!!
I ride the bus to work but get off about 2 1/2 miles from my office. I walk back to the same bus stop to get home.
Kudos for giving him a lift in the rain. Probably his walking is why he is 98; hopefully headed for whatever more he wants. G-d bless them all.

It poured here in Rochester for the better part of the day on Tuesday.
Kudos to both of them
Walking is risky here on roads without sidewalks. Our town has been putting in sidewalks in the last few years, and now my kids can walk 2-1/2 miles each way to Walmart on the sidewalk.
This man in character seems very much like my Father, who walked everywhere all his life and died at age 92. His brain was all specked with TIA’s but his temperament was sweet, his loving was evident and his chassis was still classy.
Sounds like a brisk 40min walk each way. I should do that.
It’s just a good stretch of the legs, as Maureen O’Hara said. My late father loved cars.
Refular walking, including occasional long distances, is the key to longevity — unless you wander into oncoming traffic, of course.
6 miles EACH way.
I walk a 16 minute mile and that is at a reasonably brisk place
More like almost 2 hours for him.
They don’t then like this anymore, what an inspiration.
I live on the NY/PA border in PA. Near NJ too.
When I walk the roads the PA drivers sometimes ask, assuming my car has broken down.
The NY / NJ drivers will sometimes steer into me.
I was commenting on Spok’s 2.5 mile walk between his bus stop and his office. Sorry if that wasn’t clear.
I know it’s going to take 2-3 hours to cover six miles for a 98yo. Yes, I marvel at the man’s constitution. He is an inspiration and I hope I’m blessed to be as hale and healthy if I can reach his age.
I hope this is true.
Real Love Ping.
great story thanks for sharing it.
