Marlin 30-30 Model 336
Am Shooting Journal ^ | 9/12/2018 | L Deboma

Posted on 09/12/2018 9:07:03 AM PDT by w1n1

First conceived by Marlin Firearms in 1948, the Marlin 336 is one of the most popular lever-action rifles ever.
The Marlin being reasonably priced, very reliable and easy-to-use rifle makes it very popular among the hunters and gun enthusiasts.
This Marlin Model 336 ranks up there with other big boys like the Winchester Model 1894, the Winchester Model 70 and the Remington Model 700.
Which is why hunters have taken countless deer, elk, bear and feral hogs with this great little rifle over the years.

Here are some 336 model thats out there:
336BL The BL stands for “big loop” and this model features a larger-than-normal loop in the lever that makes it easier for a shooter wearing gloves to operate this rifle.
336C The Marlin Model 336C is available in either .30-30 Winchester or .35 Remington and has a pistol grip stock and 20-inch blued barrel.
336SS The Marlin Model 336SS has a stainless steel receiver, a pistol grip, a 20-inch stainless steel barrel, and is chambered in .30-30 Winchester. Read the rest of Marlin 30-30 Model 336 here.

Took my first White Tails with this rifle. It was my Dad’s and he gave it to me. I still have it.

Oops #2, the incorrect quote in my post also overwrote my first tube magazine advantage:

Tube magazine rifles are usually slimmer than magazine fed rifles.

Got a 1971.

I love shooting this rifle. More than my semi autos.

had to sell her and almost everyone of her safemates to pay my divorce lawyer.

I've heard that tale before. Sad.

My wife had a boss whose wife (soon after to be ex) sold -while he was gone - all of his extensive collection. Happy ending. His second wife was a gun nut like he and had a nice collection to help start over.

I had a 336C in .35 Rem...years ago.

Hunted and killed many a deer with it in the '70's, while at Fort Rucker, AL.

I foolishly sold it and bought a 700 through the R&G Club at Baumholder, Germany, in 1980, which I have regretted to this day.

That gun (the Marlin) was the best brush gun I've ever had.

Granted, the .35 Rem round was not the best deer cartridge for brush hunting, but I killed every deer I shot at, believe it or not, and every one within 100 yards.

I own Marlins but not a 336. I own a Mossberg 479 in 30-30. Very similar to the 336. I love my lever action 30-30. When scoped, it makes a formidable hunting rifle...and quite a good stand off platform.

Maybe I don’t understand what you are saying.

The model 94 Winchester’s magazine is loaded the same way the Marlin 336 is.

Once I split CA for TX I was able to add a decent AR and a 12 gauge to the battery, so I can’t really complain LOL.

If by recharging the magazine you mean load rounds via the side loading port, I am able to do so at any time on my Mossberg 479 lever action 30-30...even if not empty.

I am a lever lover.

If you have to have a bolt, get a Browning BLR.

“Still love my 300 Savage Model best but these rifles are fantastic!”

I have a box of .300 Savage Ammo around somewhere. I never got the rifle.

Long story...

My gun acquisitions have stopped since I got back into riding. LOL. I am sadly having trouble finding time to shoot and ride as much as I like.

I’ve got a Nylon 66, a 795 Marlin, the 336, a RRA AR15 and a Saiga AK.

Each one has characteristics that I enjoy, but there something elemental about the 336.
