The family of Robert Card, the man accused of shooting and killing 18 people in Lewiston, Maine, have shared several details with police about Robert’s “acute” mental health episodes the months leading up to the mass shooting.
In an exclusive report, NBC News reported Katie Card who is married to Robert’s brother, shared that Robert began to hear “horrible” voices talking about him just shortly after he was “fitted for high-powered hearing aids.”
Katie Card told NBC “He was picking up voices that he had never heard.
She continued “His mind was twisting them around. He was humiliated by the things that he thought were being said.”
As of 6 PM on Thursday night Card is still at large after gunning down and murdering over a dozen people in Maine.

My aunt was all but deaf - if you were behind her & said something to her, she didn’t hear it. She mostly had to read lips, but she did have hearing aids. I went with her to doctor appointments because she just didn’t get what they were saying (cardiologist talked too fast, vascular surgeon had an accent). Her hearing aids would screech & make all sorts of noise if they got near to anything, like the pillow on the vascular surgeon’s exam table when she was lying down. He despised her hearing aids, they drove him nuts! One appointment, they were screeching because he had her lying down while he examined a surgical site ... he finally leaned down close to her face and yelled “HELEN!! Are you trying to contact the NSA???” I cracked up laughing. On her last appointment with him, she had new hearing aids that did not screech .... he was thrilled.
If a relative does that, it can damage the family relationship and be counterproductive for the sick person’s mental health.
I wear hearing aids. My problems were I can’t hear consonants and can’t tell where sounds are coming from. The hearing aids are a help but not a cure all. I worked around loud industrial machinery for 35 years so my high frequency hearing is shot. But I don’t hear voices.
Two words: psychotropic drugs.
This used to be a part of the released reports, those released after mass shootings.
That stopped. After Colombine, the medical drug reports were on all of them, then they stopped being reported. All of the said shooters were taking Psychotropic drugs (don’t go and read the side effects). But just like the COVID vax injuries, the US media is blind. big pharma walks free with more money in the bank.
Of course, it’s a gun problem. Go find that problem before Psychotropic Drugs...
Oh ya, I took a Ruger 10/22 to school and put it in my locker in the 1980’s. Squirrel/Rabbit hunting was a part of life, with friends.
Never ever thought of shooting someone, it never ever happened. Then we have video games and Psychotropic drugs added together. One hell of a cocktail.
Maybe his hearing aid played Taylor Swift 24/7.
my father had the VA $5k each hearing aids and he went back to the audiologist every other month because they bugged him so much. he just wore one when he wanted to talk to someone.then took it out.
I went suddenly deaf in one ear and after trying to treat it,.. the next step is the type that’s implanted. After I read this last night, it caught my attention!

Since I have gotten mine, I can hear my hair.
I met someone years ago who heard voices. It was his children’s voices telling him to do things like jump in front of a train etc. with treatment, he learned and constantly reminded himself they were not real. I found it impressive that he learned how to cope considering how horrible it must be.

He’s probably a schizophrenic.
Back in the day crazy people were sent to live in the county home.
Then the bleeding hearts got rid of the county homes.
Now the bums and other assorted nut jobs just do whatever the voices tell them to do.
He’s severely mentally ill.
Go figure - a gun instructor with bad hearing....and needing “high-powered” hearing aids.
Family wants to cash in on his mental illness - but will go after wrong people - the psychiatrists who didn’t institutionalize him are the culprits...

Mine too, you’re not alone. Not always but when it happens, it’s soft but distinct and annoying.
My hearing aids never have anything to say to me though.
