The family of Robert Card, the man accused of shooting and killing 18 people in Lewiston, Maine, have shared several details with police about Robert’s “acute” mental health episodes the months leading up to the mass shooting.
In an exclusive report, NBC News reported Katie Card who is married to Robert’s brother, shared that Robert began to hear “horrible” voices talking about him just shortly after he was “fitted for high-powered hearing aids.”
Katie Card told NBC “He was picking up voices that he had never heard.
She continued “His mind was twisting them around. He was humiliated by the things that he thought were being said.”
As of 6 PM on Thursday night Card is still at large after gunning down and murdering over a dozen people in Maine.

I am not excusing the shooter’s actions.
I am commenting that being issued a similar design device, after NOT hearing all the sounds that all of you with good hearing have learned to selectively ignore, it wore on my nerves! I had to stop wearing them, and I am stating that wiithout any wording of otherthings.
Perhaps what he was hearing were the things people around him actually said, that he couldn’t hear before he got the new hearing aids. And they didn’t know he could now hear them?

That is strange, mine apparently are not that powerful. Are your controlled by an app on your phone like mine. I try and turn mine up to full and still don’t get that much amplification. Most of my hearing loss is in high ranges from my days in sheet metal and flightline work as well as years of shooting
The man was 400 feet away screaming at the sky...kids were simply having fun less than 100 feet from me.
It sounded like he was killing them...not cool at all.

That is crazy, either mine are not working as well as yours or my hearing is much worse than the hearing aids can correct for, or over correct in your case.
I assume you have turned yours down and they still amplify that much?
Sounds like a trip to the VA for you, here in Columbus it is pretty easy to get an appointment. Was trying to change removable insert and pushed it in instead of getting it out and had an appointment the next day to get it replaced

Best benefit for me is hearing phone on hearing aids, and listening to podcasts while wife watches TV 😉
I have worn hearing aids for over five years and was recently fitted with the latest and greatest model. I hear the voices of those around me and other sounds. I have never thought I was hearing anything that was telling me to do something evil.
What exactly did you think they should have done?
Have you ever had anyone sectioned? You don’t just call the guys with nets to take him away. The process is long and complicated and if the target is not willing…it can takes a long time to have the person locked up.
And very few people on FR are going to take away someone’s guns.
There were likely lots of red flags..but not many people paying attention or willing to do anything.
And Maine has a provision for involuntary civil commitment.
Makes me wonder what local LE knew and when they knew it.
As you no doubt know heavy marijuana use promotes schizophrenia.
God made millions of plants. That doesn’t necessarily imply that opposing smoking their leaves is wrong of us. Smoking anything hurts your lungs at a very bare minimum.
Infantry vet, but don’t use hearing aids. I’m in my 40s though, so maybe I will later, but I don’t expect to last much longer given the current geopolitical situations.
