Video footage on Tuesday emerged showing the moment when plainclothes Chicago police officers unloaded nearly 100 gunshots during a traffic stop last month, killing a man and subsequently leading to negative anti-cop coverage. However, the narrative of police killing an innocent man runs counter to the facts.
As the New York Post reported, 26-year-old Dexter Reed was killed during a March 21 traffic stop in Humboldt Park on West Ferdinand Street after officers in an unmarked cop car pulled him over for failing to wear a seatbelt.
The wild footage opens with a female officer and four others approaching Reed’s vehicle while he rolls down the window. But he refuses to exit his SUV despite the policewoman angrily ordering him to do so several times.
The officers then back up, and a major shootout subsequently erupts, sending her scrambling.
“Shots fired! Shots fired!” the female officer yells. “Alert the neighbors!”
She and her fellow officers then fire several more bullets before stopping.

So, I guess the IQ challenged media would expect the police to first take a poll to see which policeman would be chosen to return just one bullet (equal retaliation, ya know). Eff the media and the turds that they evolved from.
But why are plainclothes cops in unmarked cars doing traffic stops for unworn seatbelts when minor offenses are being ignored during de-policing?
I figure the seatbelt was a pretext and not the real reason.
Shoot was justified, not panic and overreaction.

What’s the rule? Wait about 48 hours for the real story to get out? These days it’s kind of hard because it was less than two months ago we all saw bodycam footage of some idiot mag dumping because an acorn fell on the hood of a car.
My thought, too.
At usual, some of you guys beat me to it. Isn't there enough red meat to take on or investigate in Chicago, rather than doing these petty crumb motor vehicle offense interactions? Unless, of course, they knew something about this kid that's not been revealed yet.

Really does look like the occupant started shooting, and yes, he KNEW they were cops!
And taxpayers will be stuck for the cost of disposal of the corpse.
The Tuesday protest was marked by clashes between protesters and police, a heckler shouting “he shot a police officer!” and one person hospitalized during the altercation.
“The press conference was dispersing and the Chicago police officers did what they’ve done numerous times in the past, which was — that in the moment of dispersal — they engaged in escalatory conduct,” Bedi said. “It was CPD’s commitment to escalating instead of deescalating that resulted in Dexter Reed’s death and the arrest of his brother on the same day that the video was released.”
After he was taken into custody, activist groups had called for Reed’s release on social media, urging people to call Chicago police.
“He is #DexterReed’s lil Bro & 20 Cops swarmed him last night, slammed him to the ground for no good reason & are currently detaining him!” a post on X from the group Good Kids Mad City reads.
96 rounds, number on target? “If you comply, you might not die.”
