I wonder where you will include "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer"?

Hey, Merry Christmas to you as well, I love Christmas music as long as Bono isn't singing it. (Ha Ha, had to throw that in from yesterday's thread.)

You can add "Away in a Manger" to the number 11 for Religious songs. Also "The Little Drummer Boy" could get a honorable mention.
To: Jersey Republican Biker Chick
It was actually tough to narrow it down to 10. They both almost made it!

There are quite a lot of great songs out there. Our chorus director in high school made us do "Carol of the Bells" every year in the holiday program. We also did religious songs, there was no ban on them then in NJ schools.
For non-religious, you have to mention "All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth" that always makes me laugh, as does "The Chipmunk Song".
To: Jersey Republican Biker Chick
I have a soft spot for Eartha Kitt's "Santa Baby" too. A little bit naughty, though.

I always have liked Chimpmunks Roasting on an Open Fire by Bob Rivers.
Actually most of Bob Rivers parodies are pretty funny. A "Visit from Saint Nicholson" while dated, still makes me laugh.

Santa Baby is a good one. I heard a parody last Christmas Eve on the radio and it was so funny. I don't know who did it, but it was to an old fifties tune. It was sung by the angel on the top of the Christmas tree. It started out with "Who put the stump in my rump de rump de rump..." It was so funny, I almost wrecked the car laughing so hard.

Or "Santa's Secret Sleigh"

I like "I Am Santa Claus" set to Black Sabbath's "Iron Man" and the parody of "Winter Wonderland" "Walkin' 'Round In Women's Underwear" Puts a smile on my face every time.
To: Jersey Republican Biker Chick
You are, of course, referring to that genius of musical parody - Bob Rivers.
The tune you remember is "Who Put the Stump", IIRC, from the immortal cd "Chipmunks Roasting On an Open Fire".
I also like "We Wish You Weren't Living With Us" and "I'm Dressing Up Like Santa (When I Get Out On Parole).
He's got at least 4 or 5 Christmas albums.

Silver Bells, closely followed by I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day, Rocking Around The Christmas Tree and Blue Christmas. Honorable mentions to Christmas In Jail and the classic Christmas With The Devil by Spinal Tap!

What about "In the bleak midwinter"?
BTW, anyone ever try doing a line-by-line paraphrase of a song without using ANY words in the paraphrase that occur in the corresponsing lines of the original, while maintaining rhyme and meter? It's sorta fun.
During the cold season, cold and loud winds blew.
All the ground was frozen; lakes and rivers too.
White precipitation to great heights was massed.
During the cold season in the distant past.
Or, if you don't know that one, perhaps this will be more familiar:
Relax all happy chevaliers--don't fret for anything.
Do not forget the date that Mary gave birth to a King.
To snap the Devil's snares and end our aimless wandering
So spread cheerful tranquility--tranquility.
So pread chearful transquility.
Tricky form of word-crafting, but it does produce some interesting results.

I agree with Blue Christmas. Brings back memories of being away from family on Christmases past.

O Tannenbaum (sp) (Nat King Cole)
Silver Bells (Doris Day)
God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (Bing Crosby)
And Stan Boreson had a funny Christmas song - but I can't remember the title.

Actually, Mahalia Jackson (gospel singer extraordinaire) did a beautiful rendition of "Go Tell It On The Mountain". She also did quite a few other Christmas songs just as well.

"and the classic Christmas With The Devil by Spinal Tap!"
There's a very fine line between stupid and clever, and that song straddles it with ease.
I also like that bizarre "carol" sung by a little boy that starts with "There's something stuck up in the chimney, and I don't know what it is...". Cruel but hilarious, just like Christmas in the RATL04 household!
