Battling same sex attraction

Posted on 02/18/2005 6:54:01 AM PST by joedownthestreet

As a born-again Christian man who struggles with same sex attraction, I want to share a website for anyone out there who shares this struggle and is looking for real change in their life. Don't let anyone lie to you!!! Homosexuality is not something that you are born with, nor is it something that you cannot change. While the attractions are not of our choosing, the DECISION to follow through on them is, and we must struggle with them through the only means that works--Jesus Christ. For your own life's sake, visit this website NOW!!! http://www.settingcaptivesfree.com/door_hope/enroll.php

You are so right. Being a Christian just about always puts one in the middle of attack from both sides. Right?

Ah, ok, no problem. No phony here, have been a conservative for 20 years. Only just found this site last year though. Haven't been on the net but a couple years.

My thought is that they will be exposed to it no matter what. What is important is that you raise them to understand that this is not an acceptable alternative lifestyle in spite of what the media and other left wing organizations would have them believe. It has even been preached as such in some Christian communities (these are what the Bible would refer to as false prophets and they will have their due). It is also important, however, that they understand that there is a difference between judging the sin and judging the person who is held captive by it. We all need to do a better job of that when it comes to any activity. Inside everyone who is a slave to this or any other sin (which would encompass everyone) there is a soul screaming to be set free, and God loves them.

Good luck to you Joe. I was once enamored of syringe needles injecting poison liquid into my blood stream.

The message of Jesus brought me back. You are a courageous man, and I salute you. Ignore the taunts. Take them in stride. I hope you find the right lady and have children.

You know most problems, I mean the lurking kind aren't really actively solved, like changing faulty spark plugs in a car, but trasnscended, forgotten, as if cured not by surgery, but by a healing balm. The message of Jesus, by setting you on a better path, propitiates that. Bring children into your life and you'll be so busy and distracted, so grounded in the "what's what" that you'll occasionally look at the past wondering if that was you... but mostly you'll be looking towards the radiant future someone of your great human courage deserves.

Thank you, and everyone else for your encouragement. Any prayers would be graciously accepted. The courage is not human though, and it is not mine. It comes from God through Jesus and to Him all the glory.

There is another organization that helps those who have same-sex attraction. It's called Courage. Check out their website.

Yes, I am familiar with Courage, they are another excellent organization. It's important to understand that what sets Courage, and Setting Captives Free apart from other behavioral approaches to escaping this lifestyle is God, pure and simple. No other source will result in real change, and the the way to God is through Jesus Christ. Call on Him, invite Him into your life, and marvel at what He brings to you. I am amazed, looking back, at how much He was working in my life all along. He loved me when I didn't love myself and watched over me in spite of myself. I was my own worst enemy and even though I didn't acknowledge that He was there, He was my best friend.

Admitting your challenge on FR takes amazing courage. Prayer heavenward as you grow in Christ and stand strong against that which desires to hold you in bondage. <><

Thank you, but I give all the credit to God, I am hardly courageous. The Holy Spirit brought me to post this and it's my hope that, in doing so, someone who desperately needs to get this message will get it here.

By the way, Setting Captives Free is not just for those who struggle with this particular compulsion. Anyone who is plagued with any habitual sin can find freedom through one of their courses. I highly recommend it.
