It's just entertainment in the guise of reporting. They have nothing else to do, they can't sit there without speaking.

People who work, do.
People who can't become new anchors.
except Snow and Hume, about the only legit news anchors in the business for cable or national news.

I know the Bishops and the Cardinals.....are the men in the white vestments over either purple or black Priests and altar servers?

I have a somewhat practical question. I do not mean to take away from the beauty of these ceremonies, because I am deeply moved, but having said that, can anyone tell me how the Popes body was prepared for all of this. I don't want to sound harsh, but wont he smell by Friday during the funeral?
Any doctors in the house that can answer?

The Pope deserves the most news by far.Personally, I can't get into allot of coverage about a body, any body, esp one who was part of the Christian faith when it says "absent from the body is present with the Lord". It's isn't like he is coming back in 3 days, is it? IMO, it's over, bury him and get on with their lives.

I had a dream last night that the Pope sat up and began to give a sermon. Maybe it was premenition of Fox New's ticker...

The body has been embalmed.

One mans embalmed is another mans pickled.

Whoever writes their banners ought to think twice before slapping them on the screen.

This is a ritual that is almost two thousand years old. It is important historically, and very important to people of the Roman Cathoic faith.
It is best if you aren't interested that you find something else to do for the next few days.

The wonderful thing about the US is our ability to decide what we will watch and what we will not.
While the 24 hour cable channels are dedicating the majority of their time to the Pope's funeral, there are hundreds of alternative sources for news coverage. Take advantage of them.
It isn't like a group of militant Priests have taken over your home, armed with AR-15's and Holy Water, forcing you to watch the funeral coverage.
