Theme Song to SHAFT by Isaac Hayes
Who's the black private dick
That's a sex machine to all the chicks?
SHAFT!
Ya damn right!
Who is the man that would risk his neck
For his brother man?
SHAFT!
Can you dig it?
Who's the cat that won't cop out
When there's danger all about?
SHAFT!
Right On!
They say this cat Shaft is a bad mother
SHUT YOUR MOUTH!
I'm talkin' 'bout Shaft.
THEN WE CAN DIG IT!
He's a complicated man
But no one understands him but his woman
JOHN SHAFT!

Diva (Aria from La Wally) ~ Alfredo Catalani

I'm glad I read the posts first. I agree 100%.
I loved the movie, but the real reason I love the theme song is they played it every friday night as the modifieds were rolling out onto the track for the feature race at Stafford Motor Speedway. I went 12 years without missing a single race there, except for the time I crashed my motorcycle into a pine tree at around 60 miles per hour.
If you like any kind of racing, imagine being 8 years old seeing 35 of your childhood heroes pushing their 800 horsepower purebred race machines around a track in the era before race cars with mufflers and the faint sound of the Shaft theme as they warm up.
Every time I hear it I hrken back to the good old days and still get shivers of excitemtn running down my spine.
