The movie is about the first gulf war. As for pro or against, haven't seen it. Figure it'll make something nice to watch via NetFlix in April.

I've heard good things about it from conservative friends. Planning on seeing it for myself sometime soon.

You signed up today to ask this?

Thumbs down on the movie per those who were actually there.

For what it's worth, my nephew, and 2 of his friends, all Marines and all 2 tour Iraq veterans, saw it last night. They all liked it very much.

I don't think I'd bother. It is hollyweird, after all.

I have been seeing ads which say it is made by the same guy who made "American Beauty".

That pretty much makes me want to avoid it since I think that may have been the most disgusting movie I have ever seen.

It's from the same moron that made "American Beauty." The "Jughead" character and author of the book from which the movie was made claims he was a "sniper" during Gulf War I and is proud of the fact that he never "hurt or killed anybody." I'm gonna pass.

Micheal Medved reviewed this flick on Friday.
He said 2.5 stars...and not to bother with it...

For what it's worth, the liberal movie critics hate it. Mostly because there's no strong anti-war message in it. Look what they wrote, as compiled by IMDB.com:

Several critics are faulting Jarhead for presenting an elegant view of America's soldiers during the first Gulf War without any sort of social viewpoint. "It is a movie that walks up to some of the most urgent and painful issues of our present circumstance, clears its throat loudly and, with occasional flourishes of impressive rhetoric, says nothing," writes A.O. Scott in the New York Times. Rick Groen in the Toronto Globe and Mail puts it this way: "The result is a war picture that, trying to pass off fidelity to the book as objectivity, sacrifices any voice of its own, and ends up not knowing what to think."

I've seen it.

The movie had very little politics(unlike "Over There") but I thought it portrayed Marines as bloodthirsty, undisciplined hooligans. It did have some interesting scenes but not much that we haven't seen in "Full Metal Jacket".

On the other hand, some guys I know from ROTC enjoyed most of it.

I saw it last night. I wanted to see it because I recall how much thought Sam Mendes put into every scene in American Beauty- a film that I liked. The scenes in Jarhead were also well done but the story seemed to fall flat. I'd see American Beauty again. I don't think I would see this film again.

My friends who saw it said it wasn't that good. No fighting. Which when you go to a war movie you have some expectations.
