Has '24' Gone Bush-Bashing? (**Spoiler Vanity**)

Posted on 01/30/2006 9:06:33 PM PST by Lunatic Fringe

So it seems that the plotline for this season's '24' is that a dark, shadowy conspiracy of white American puppetmasters is exploiting the threat of terrorism in order to 'secure the flow of oil for the next generation,' manipulating a weak, dim-witted President to achieve their diabolical goals of world domination and economical power.

There is no patriot as Walter claims to be, who would take part in much less assassinate President Palmer like Walter did.

I tivo'd this last night and I have to say that it was an attack at neocons. The President's (bumbling Republican) CHIEF OF STAFF is arranging a plot to plant weapons of mass destruction in southeast asia so as to secure oil...(WAR FOR OIL ANYONE?), It was obvious. Did Rush talk about it today?

"the president in this 24 season is not decisive, no spine, and I don't care for him too much. Kind of reminds of of Jimmy Carter."

Kinda like to kick him in the byuttocks and get him to
straighten up.

Yeah, I sympathize with the first lady, being married to that spinless mass of flesh.

She buggs. Chloe pouts all the time and always complains.

Chloe says all the things I really want to say to people in the office. I live vicariously through her. Plus she shoots things. Chloe rocks in my book. :P

Yep the whole "fake a terrorist threat to launch a war for oil" subplot is ugly and hopefully will cost them viewers.

It is the motive even if there are "other" bad guys.

I guess they didn't learn after re-shooting last season to respond to CAIR's complaints.

An addict, as admitted. I'd rather watch the next episode w/o phone calls and other assorted nonsense, than make a quail confit for Emeril Lagasse. An ''expert''? You're too kind, absolutely. I cannot claim the honour you ascribe; many thanks for the compliment, though!

If a major character named ''Nathanson'' is involved in this year's plot at the moment, I am (sadly) unaware of same, and obviously, I shall have to pay more attention.

Best wishes for good telly dramas, Mystic, but these days, apart from the pretty much over the top series '24', there are either not many or not any.

I apologise for not knowing the answer you require.

Nonetheless, best to you, and FReegards!

Nathanson is the creepy bald guy who was giving Walt all his instructions by phone and apparently has the capability to tap into Jack's secure lne at CTU, enabling his capture in the last episode. He's played by an actor named Geraint Wyn Davies.
I guess the "5th Hour" is the first time he's shown up, and apparently no one else knows who he is either.

Thanks, mate, I'm still wondering how blind I am, or perhaps deaf.

For the life of me (and obviously I shouldn't wager at THAT price), I **still** can't place this chap by name.

Ah, well, presumably my bindness and/or deafness will be cured or cleared up in the next episode.

Lowrider is very distinctive and cuts through all ambient noise very well, especially outside.

Don't think he would do anything so final. He wouldn't trust them to do anything after he offed himself.

I remember that actor from "Forever Knight" or was it night. anyway, he was the vampire cop who worked the night shift. Wow he sure has gotten dissipated over the years or it's one hell of a make up job.

Good point, but IMO with him saying he will disappear after this nerve gas issue is resolved is saying he has no way of having a settled future.
I think he will die, have to kill himself like that one agent did at the end of season 6.

Next year is the last year Sutherland is signed for.

I wouldn't base too much on that. They don't sign anything that far ahead.

I think the point is, Walt's shallow motives have got him way over his head with people he does not have control of. The plot isn't that the threat was contrived, or was never real, it is real, and Walt was stupid enough to think he could use evil people for his own ambitions and get away with it. That's a good and fair plot, and a common one (Mrs. Palmer did the same thing, remember?) and has nothing to do with this administration. I don't even see a REMOTE resemblance. If all you see is "fake WMD threat and war for oil" you aren't looking at the big picture.

I think it is the highest quality of show ever presented in the drama category on TV. Ihope you are right.

Lord knows the sales of DVDs of the seasons sell like hotcakes from what I see. IMO much more so than most any other show.
