Anyone Interested in a FReeper Weight Loss and Exercise Thread? (Vanity)

A few of us were thinking of starting an on-going FReeper diet and fitness thread. It would be a place where we could discuss weight loss, diet, exercise, getting back in shape, encourage each other in our efforts to get healthy, and celebrate our successes.

Any fitness or activity level. 100+ pounds to lose or no weight to lose. Those who have lost weight and kept it off, please share with us what has worked for you. Maybe you love a certain activity, biking, skiing, rock climbing, walking, running, whatever, tell us about how it helps you stay in shape. Share your weight loss success. Just a place to exchange ideas about all things exercise and diet related.

Don't be shy! As Freepers we spend a whole bunch of time in front of our computers and more then a few of us could do with some exercise and probably a little weight loss.

NO VERBAL ATTACKS! NO NAME CALLING! NO BASHING! THE OVERWEIGHT! NO NASTY PICTURES POSTED! This will be a thread about getting healthy and no attacks will be tolerated.

"I need to gain weight, not lose it. Got a recipe for that?"

Banana milkshakes before you go to bed, and lots of bacon after you get out of it.

he gave me to test out gave me painfully sore muscles.

Me too! My quads felt as if they were being ripped off of my legs.

A few of us were thinking of starting an on-going FReeper diet and fitness thread.

Eat right--exercise more.

Because billions of dollars are spent on diets, books, tapes etc. by fat people, it only proves that the the average American is not very bright. Instead of hundreds of thousands of potential words on a thread re being fat, all you need is FOUR WORDS:

Eat right--exercise more.

Anybody who needs more than just these four words has mental problems, besides being fat. I know this is not politically correct, but it is just the plain truth. This is scientific fact.

I do like fish, but not sure if they have carbs in them. I know that crab is ok, but salmon?

I "talked" with you in August when I began WW. I had lost 20 lbs. by Thanksgiving, but didn't stick with it completely. I'm just maintaining the 20 lb. loss, but need to lose another 40. I stopped drinking carbonated drinks and I'm really watching my portions. I want to tackle those remaining 40 lbs. Please add me to your list. I could use the encouragement. Thanks for starting this thread!

Great idea!
Add me to the list!

In August of 2002, I started the Atkins diet. Eight months later I went from 427# to 301# (a loss of 126#). I lost all that without exercise. I can't do much thanks to arthritis.
Sadly, I've slowly gained most of it back. The diet started to get really boring and really expensive.
I think I could do it again and get to where I wanna be (210#), if I had others to whom I needed to answer. My wife ain't much help 'cause she loves me no matter how I look. I just want to lose it because I realized I've never seen any morbidly obese senior citizens...

Its very low impact. I have a bad back & knees and can use it with no problems. The nice thing about it is that you can work yourself as hard or as easy as you want. There are 4 levels of resistance on it

I'm also observing Lent. Today I had the baked cod platter at Long John Silver. It comes with the baked cod, rice pilaf, corn cobette, coleslaw and a couple of hush puppies. I skipped the coleslaw and hush puppies, but splurged on one piece of battered fried fish for a treat. Today was my weigh in day so I allowed myself one controlled (and counted) splurge. According to my WW eating out guide, my lunch was 12 points. Not too bad. Tonight will be shrimp, veggies and brown rice.

Weight Watchers Core allows you to eat as much food from an approved list as you want until you're satisfied. No counting or measuring! Core foods are basically lean meats, seafood, whole wheat pastas, veggies, fruit, whole grains, nonfat dairy. You also get 35 points to use during the week for non-core foods. I use these for treats like the battered fried fish, breads and other goodies. I've tried recipes with foods that I've never heard of before(like quinoa)and it's been great!

That's great that you have kept it off! Espeically over the holidays. I gained so much. I was shocked because I really thought I was watching what I was eating. My husband said, "Well just imagine if you weren't watching how much you would have gained!"

I have not had rice in over 2 years. I am going to check this out.

One of the tings that has really helped me is that just about the time that I went on Atkins my husband was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. He can not have any wheat or most other grains, so I do not bake except for the grandchildren or the holidays and we just do not eat the sugar or flour items.
