DURHAM -- A judge agreed Thursday to let the defense try to find out what information is on the cell phone of the exotic dancer who has accused three Duke lacrosse players of rape, and also ordered police to preserve their notes in the case.
The decisions came as the case of State v. Reade Seligmann saw its first day in court after weeks of sometimes stunning developments, press conferences, leaked documents and almost nonstop chatter.
With a trial likely still months away, the brief hearing was supposed to be nothing more than a chance for District Attorney Mike Nifong and defense attorney Kirk Osborn, representing one of the three Duke lacrosse players charged with first-degree rape, sexual offense and kidnapping, to settle some administrative issues.

The irrationally high bail is a sympton, not a cause, of Nifong being a vengeful little prick.
Look, if you just want to say, "I have no information and no experience with such matters as establishment of bail, and simply like to be argumentative for its own non-substantive sake and because I have nothing better to do at the moment, and since I have the type of challenged personality that causes me to get gratification from participating in such noisome gambits and harrassment of other posters, then just say so.

1) Cause it is.
2) Cause Nifong is a vengeful little prick and we know he is because the bail is irrationally high
3) Cause people who live in Durham are too poor to make that bail
4) Cause hey, it wasn't like they beat her. It's just unlawful confinement and gang rape. Not gang rape plus aggravated assault
5) Cause if you're indicted for rape while on vacation in a state thousands of miles from home, the court shouldn't take where you live into consideration when considering the risk you won't appear for trial.

The only thing I can figure is that this case has symbolic value, incarnating the way a certain part of our population believes that another part of our population has been treating it for centuries.

The reason given by Nifng for high bail was flight risk. If you believe that the duke students are a flight risk, then your opinion make sense. If they are not, then you are wrong. Nobody thinks they are going to run. so. . .
The cell phone is going to get both Kim and Crystal. The very fact that she had the false nails out in the bathroom says....the clock was ticking....and the boys were not inside the bathroom. They certainly weren't watching her do her nails.
And personally, I don't think she was out like a light in Kim's car. She was faking that, too.
Durham is now and always has been a dysfunctional black town. Think of slurs and that is the reality of Durham.

I've gotten the mighty clue that the leadership in Durham has gone the Nat Turner path. It doesn't involve much critical thought, just a rebelling against all things white.
Note: The History of Nat Turner's rebellion is an amazing story of throwing off one's oppressors. He was right. And right to do so. It's the "afterward" of what he supported and encouraged which appears to be what Nation of Islam runs in tandem with. And the various Black Panther groups. It's why, I suspect, they refer to conservative Blacks as "oreos" for not supporting a rebellion of all things "white".
While Durham in its early days was more in line with the Booker Washington form of thought -- using ideas and knowledge and education -- it appears a "big brother/we rule" has taken hold in Durham.

The seriousness of the charge. That's all I need to know about you. The "seriousness" has NO CORROBORATIVE evidence.

You ever read about the trial of Scottsboro Boys in the 1930s? 9 black teen males ACCUSED of gang raping two white girls?
THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE CHARGE was more important than any facts. Eventually, and after a great deal of horror and false accusations, the girls recanted. They were "pressured" into these allegations but they "accused" the boys but only because they'd been doing something wrong. So, they blamed the black male teens.
It was wrong then, it is still wrong today.
But you go right on having a fun time not seeing yourself as a bigot and believing that the "seriousness of the charge" is more important than available facts.
Yesterday on the air, Greta more than once said that she was "down here" in Durham.
Apparently she considers New York City to be recognized as the standard geographic reference point.
she gave a reason. a murderer in the same county was freed on $50k bail, rich young white boys bail was set at $400k. THAT is the point. have you followed the case at all?
