CANOGA PARK - On Sunday, Juliana Martinez will immortalize Anna Nicole Smith with a girly altar decorated in shades of pink.
The Canoga Park woman wants people to remember Anna Nicole as a sultry Guess jeans girl - not the drug addicted sex symbol whose life spiraled out of control.
Martinez will honor Smith at a daylong celebration of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), an annual Latino celebration where the living symbolically pass time - even party — with the souls of the dead who return each year to visit and be entertained.
“I mean this in a totally respectful way,” she said as she sifted through items that will be used for an altar. “I just want to protect her from somebody else who might want to abuse her memory.”
Martinez, 53, is among dozens who will erect altars, or ofrendas (offerings), to welcome the returning souls at Sunday’s seventh annual event.
Main Street Canoga Park, a nonprofit, community-based organization, established the festival, with the assistance of the Community Redevelopment Agency in 2001.
The Anna Nicole Smith altar will be decked out in pink marigolds, pink-dyed rice, a headless mannequin dressed in a pink satin dress, a pink martini glass filled with pink M&M’s, black roses and pictures of the blonde bombshell.
“I’m not a fan,” Martinez said. “When she was on TV I looked at her and said `poor thing.’ You should give her the respect you would to anyone who passed away.”

Last night, Nancy Grace had Perper on as an analyst on one of the cases she was discussing. With all the questions about his ethics, I’m surprised they would use him. I notice no one seems to be using Dr. Wecht now.
Good point. I too would like to know why Nancy Grace is having Perper on her show. Somebody asked if he is paying Nancy? I second the call to investigate him. Wecht also was embroiled in scandals. Would be interesting to find out who recommended Wecht to AN since he and Perper are acquainted.

I also noticed we haven’t seen Dr. Wecht lately. When he hears the word “exhume” he always blows a gasket. He needs to watch his blood pressure. Probably trying to “lay low” until his trial the end of January. He doesn’t want to look like a total baffoon to the court.

I agree. Nancy Grace has not been shy about asking hard questions and pointing out errors or perceived errors in guests. This makes her lame questions to Perker - who apparently is incapable of handling even moderate ones - all the more perplexing. Several people have mentioned how terrified he was when questioned on Geraldo’s show.
Wecht's reaction to further investigating DS and ANS's deaths, indicates a possible cover-up. I would think he would want a closer investigation of ANS's death. She did hire him. Instead, he and Perper use identical terms in referring to her, such as Queen Bee.

The hiring of Cyril Wecht has HK$’ fingerprints all over it. He probably told Wecht the result he expected and Wecht told him how much that would cost.

As firefighters prepared for this weekend’s winds, several small fires continued to burn in sparsely populated areas. Also, two large ones had yet to be fully contained.
The forecast this weekend called for Santa Ana winds gusting to 50 mph near the cities of San Bernardino and Fontana, east of Los Angeles, and in the mountains near hard-hit Santa Clarita, in Los Angeles County.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger declared a state of emergency in Riverside County on Friday because of harsh winds, which in addition to heightening the wildfire threat have damaged power lines, trees homes and buildings.
Similar gusts were expected in the hamlet of Campo, about 60 miles east of San Diego on the Mexican border, and in the sparsely populated mountains of Orange County.

For some reason, “Queen Bee” suggests KE’s wording. We still do not know FOR CERTAIN if KE prescribed anything for Danny. Remember....He was depressed.

Wecht’s lawyer said nothing to make me think he wasn’t guilty. I think Sod is right about HKS hiring Wecht (the coroner for hire). I have looked all over the internet to see if it said anywhere about Stern hiring Wecht. The articles either said Wecht was hired by Anna or Anna’s family. Nothing mentioning Howard in that regard. Anna’s family was not there and I don’t think that Anna was in any condition to hire anyone. I’d bet that Howard hired Wecht just like he bought the burial plots and handled her business while he kept her drugged up.

HK$ & KE signed her checks - remember the nanny’s dead-on imitation of Anna saying to Howard: *read it to me - I can’t read it* and signing anything HK$ put in front of her.
How fortunate - HK$ represented himself as her *agent, attorney, husband and confidante* and how unfortunate - everyone believed him.
Good point. She wasn’t allowed to make phone calls or receive any. She couldn’t have called Wecht and carried on an intelligent conversation with him if she had wanted to. Howard made sure she had her 4 hour schedule of drugs. Enough to kill a horse. I’m surprised she lived as long as she did. I remember the nanny’s saying that now since you mentioned it. She didn’t know what she was signing or what Howard signed for her without her knowledge. It’s unbelievable that Howard doesn’t have much work experience but he seems to be a jack of all trades.
