ABC Uses Hollywood Style Editing To Distort Palin Interview
New York Post ^ | September 12, 2008 | Kirsten Powers

But that may be a result of the ham-fisted editing - which seemed to cut her off mid-thought on many answers. ABC should release the entire, unedited interview, so that Americans can judge her more fairly.

ABC was deliberately trying to make the viewer feel uncomfortable by editing Palin’s interview like a Hollywood movie. Oliver Stone must have been in the editing booth.

Editing creates pace and emotion. The editor of this piece was trying to make the viewer feel unbalanced.

They inserted jump cuts, which are never used in TV journalism. That’s when an edit is made without the camera angle changing. That technique creates a feeling of uneasiness because it is jarring to the senses.

The rhythm of the edits were uneven , the camera angles were horrendous and the audio at times was cut off during some answers in a very jarring manner.

The producer and editor did everything in their power to present a disjointed and visually unflattering portrait of Palin.

Just compare the Palin interview to the free flowing, melodic nature of this Gibson interview with Barry:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzecb7Qe6vo&feature=related

It’s incredibly easy to see the stark contrast in editing styles.

This was biased TV "journalism" at its absolute worst.

Editing has played a role in Presidential campaigns in the past.

One man, Don Hewitt, the former creator and producer of 60 Minutes, has been involved in two of those circumstances.

First, he produced the Nixon/Kennedy debates and according to this article, he would cut to Nixon when he was sweating or wiping his brow, in order to make Nixon look bad.

http://www.firstliberties.com/don_hewitt_bias.html

Then, there was the 60 Minutes interview with Billary after the Jennifer Flower’s story broke.

"Hewitt later bragged in an on-air interview that he got Bill Clinton elected..." (excerpt)

The Palin interview on ABC used editing to continue the left-wing MSM attack on Palin.

When you look at the footage strictly from a technical standpoint, the editing was so bad that a community access channel would have been embarrassed to put it on the air.

Therefore, by presenting such obviously manipulated rubbish, ABC cannot deny that it purposely edited the Palin interview in a manner that would portray her in a negative manner.

I've seen "guests" on "To Catch A Predator" portrayed in a better light.

Hopefully, most people were able to see through the Hollywood editing techniques and blatant bias.

I thought they were using jump cuts. I assumed that these were only used on the internet to keep the file size down.

Regardless, I thought she did very well.

Better yet film it ourselves and no edit replay if needed to refute thier version.
And establish that we will bring in our own film crew b4 the interview takes place or there will be no interview.

Not much chance of that. Most Americans are so poorly educated on media tricks that they have no idea what editing can do.

That’s why the Liberal Media thinks it is so clever. I’ve used the same tactics in TV commercials/videos to show “before and after.”

People don’t see through it because they don’t know. Some Liberal editor/producers at ABC knew what they were doing.

Wow, if a liberal like Kirsten Powers sees the blatant bias and editing then you know there is real problems with perception here. This hatchet job by ABC will blow up in there face, yet again.

I don’t like the chair to chair with no table format.

That said, it seemed when they had a side shot of both of them, they skewered the angle to prove unflattering to Palin. She seemed scrunched up...maybe my TV’s going but I saw clips on a couple of sets.

Something didn’t look right in those side shots of the two, the frontal ones were fine.

Note to McCain Camp:

Hello

Require all interviews to be live segments.

I noticed that myself, and truth be told, I was half in the bag at that point.

What?

I was off yesterday.

Look, you spend your days off the way you want to and I'll spend mine the way I want to.

There are people who are surrounded by bigots
and know it is wrong, but are afraid to be vocal against it.
These people are going to pull the lever for Obama
and they are not being polled.

They also screwed up the analysis. On Good Morning America, they claimed Palin was “false” to say that throughout history other Veep candidates had not met foreign leaders. Then they said every living Veep had met a foreign leader, and that this would be the first time in 32 years that one hadn’t. So, apparently, Fritz Mondale hadn’t met a foreign leader before he was nominated in 1976, proving Palin’s point. Yet, ABC called it a lie.

I pointed this out last night. As someone who used to work in the film biz, I know the power of editing. Either the editor was an amateur, or the producer wanted the audience to feel disoriented by the jump cuts, Palin to sound incoherent by cutting her off in mid response, and Gibson to appear domineering over a beleaguered figure of Gov. Palin.

This is the kind of crap that made Leni Riefenstahl a master (mistress?) of propaganda. It was clearly intentional.

I agree. The McCain camp failed in this interview despite the decent appearance by Palin which was ok. I too noticed the skewed angles, she appeared scruntched up, he appeared like a giant and she like a mouse. The editing indeed created an uneasy feeling. The cutting was inexplicable except for the intent stated above.

McCain campaign has had a continuously fair and balanced approach by Fox. Not to have had a first run with them is inexcusable.

Reminded me of a Simpson episode where Homer was edited REALLY badly. The marxist media continue to demonstrate why they are dying...thank God!

Which Riefenstahl interviews are you referencing? I was surprised by her film "Olympia" because there was so little nationalist propaganda, say, in comparison to Jim McKay's reporting for ABC.

From what I have seen, she celebrated the Olympic spirit and athleticism rather than Hitlerism, despite the pressures on her, as clip 1 and clip 2 illustrate, unless you consider the music an indictment. Have you actually seen any of her films? Curious.

Poor Charlie and ABC. They tried to make Obama look good when they interviewed him 2 years ago and now they try and make Sarah look bad. Asked softball questions and to Barry, hardball, with hardball follow up to Sarah. Now it is flying back in their faces.

I did not think it was possible, but so far Palin has neutered the liberal press.
