Thank goodness for the wonder of DVR technology. I was able to see both of these last night.
Did any of you manage to see these both? We all know "24" and its edge-of-your-seat national security threats, but I was caught a bit off guard by "Heroes" and this latest episode. Swoosie Kurtz was eating at a diner, and she was reading a book, "RONALD REAGAN - An American life". As the episode progressed, it seemed clear to me that the producers were equating the oppression we conservatives are feeling right now to the witch hunt the "Heroes" in the story were going through.
I found it refreshing, because I had assumed "Heroes" producers were unabashed liberals like the rest of Hollywood.
The networks are going to have to schedule OBAMA’s nightly televised speech in their broadcast programming. They’d just better hope that he isn’t like Fidel delivering 3 hour speeches when he delivers his own speeches on the glories of Communism.
To be honest, I though mutants being wrongly hauled around by crazed soldier types was just some sort of inevitability in comic books involving mutants... and, I doubt it really is the government involved since that’s way too vague and impersonal of an enemy for the show, I think it’s someone (probably someone we’ve already met) taking advantage of Nathan so they can use government resources, and by and large, the government doesn’t know what’s really going on.
I can’t get into Heroes. I tried but once I can’t get into it, it is very difficult for me to try again...24 is AWESOME. However, I can’t watch it week to week so I always by the DVDs when they come out and watch the entire thing in a weekend or two (thank God wife loves it too. lol).
As for putting Heroes up against 24 (and for putting Chuck up against The Big Bang Theory), are television programmers trying to kill off their networks by placing shows that appeal to the same demographic up against each other? When they do that, they split the audience and often kill one or both shows in the process. Stupid.
They have done this for years. I never could understand why they do this. It has killed many good shows in the process over the years. Hopefully one day they will smarten up. But doubtful since it usually involves rival networks. Luckily I only like 24 out of the four you mentioned, but I understand it would be disappointing if you are fans of the other three shows.
Heroes is not 24. Never viewed it as a having a conservative theme. Still don’t.
The most conservative show on TV IMHO is American Idol. How is it that FRiends here don’t agree with me most of the time. I mean they have to work hard. Americans vote. Families watch. What is wrong with FREEPERS that they can’t see this?

Very good question...I would not be watching it as quickly that is for sure or perhaps not at all...
There are executives within entertainment companies who don't always like programs even when they are getting good ratings or have a built in audience.
It happened when some SeeBS executive decided to get the "hillbilly" progamming off the network around 1970.
It happened when Terry Gilliam's Brazil was greenlighted but the studio execs didn't want to back it.
Executives will sabotage a project out of spite, disregard, and personal vendetta. They don't care that the shareholders will suffer as a result. And they move with their board from company to company.
If someone dislikes genre programming and geeks and likes nighttime soap operas about cops, lawyers, doctors, or rich housewives, all the questioning in the world won't get them to reveal why they are killing a successful program.

I gave up on Heroes when it turned south because of the writer’s strike a few years ago. Should I go back to it? And are the past episodes available for streaming anywhere?

Stan Lee is a major lib too. No real conservative themes playing out in this show.
I believe Starkwood is supposed to more closely resemble Blackwater, which, among other things, has former military folks who provide protection for foreign leaders, and some State Dept. folks in foreign countries.
Past seasons of "Heroes" are available on DVD from Netflix, if you have that service. You might also check Hulu , to see if it has older episodes.
I agree it could be Blackwater...or XE. Either way it’s an evil corporation run by evil white men.
Hulu.com or Netflix has them. I like Heroes...it’s message isn’t conservative but it’s fun to watch.
I’ve never watched 24 for a variety of reasons (even though I’d probably like it) but it could hurt 24, too. While recording one or both and watching them later is always an option, that doesn’t really count in the ratings or with the advertizers. So all it would take to hurt 24 is some fans who decide to watch, say, Chuck and then follow in to Heroes without switching channels and DVR 24 to hurt 24’s ratings. The question becomes, when a person has a choice of watching one live and one later, do they watch Heroes or 24 later?
While the dual tuner TiVo solves a lot of viewing problems, it doesn’t help the ratings since I think they don’t rate DVR viewings, skipping commercials, the same way they rate live viewings.
I recommend Chuck, if you haven't been watching it. Great acting, great characters, and interesting plots. If you like sword and sorcery fantasy, you might want to try Legend of the Seeker (the episodes are all there, via Hulu), which is doing fairly well in syndication.
