Newsweek’s Evan Thomas: Obama Is ‘Sort of God’
Newsbusters ^ | June 5, 2009

Posted on 06/06/2009 5:50:33 AM PDT by Keltik

Newsweek editor Evan Thomas brought adulation over President Obama’s Cairo speech to a whole new level on Friday, declaring on MSNBC: "I mean in a way Obama’s standing above the country, above – above the world, he’s sort of God."

Thomas, appearing on Hardball with Chris Matthews, was reacting to a preceding monologue in which Matthews praised Obama’s speech: "I think the President's speech yesterday was the reason we Americans elected him. It was grand. It was positive. Hopeful...But what I liked about the President's speech in Cairo was that it showed a complete humility...The question now is whether the President we elected and spoke for us so grandly yesterday can carry out the great vision he gave us and to the world."

"So Obama’s had, really, a different task We're seen too often as the bad guys. And he – he has a very different job from – Reagan was all about America, and you talked about it. Obama is ‘we are above that now.’ We're not just parochial, we're not just chauvinistic, we're not just provincial."

Thomas elaborated on Obama as God, patronizingly explaining: "He's going to bring all different sides together...Obama is trying to sort of tamper everything down. He doesn't even use the word terror. He uses extremism. He's all about let us reason together...He's the teacher. He is going to say, ‘now, children, stop fighting and quarreling with each other.’ And he has a kind of a moral authority that he – he can – he can do that." In response, Matthews wondered: "If there's a world election between him and Osama Bin Laden, he's running a good campaign." Thomas agreed: "Yes, he is."

These guys are dreaming. The only thing that is coming together is Obama's "strongly approve" and strongly disapprove" poll numbers.

Good grief these people have lost their minds!

A rhetorical question? They voted for and supported him.

"It makes absolutely no sense."

He's a construct of the MSM; a made for TV movie; a docudrama; a movie prop...an empty suit. Carefully packaged, given a teleprompter, special effects, and Hollywood backdrops the American public went for the bread and circus with wild abandon. Barakus Maximus, "all fame is fleeting, and glory short-lived."

Yep!

He certainly holds himself in higher esteem that Jesus. I don't think even Hitler thought he was a messiah.

In a normal man, such self-esteem would make him a laughingstock, but Obama believes he can pull it off and has induced his followers to drink the kool-aid. He obviously believes himself to be "the savior of mankind"!

Rush has called Obama "highly manipulative."

A highly manipulative person is not usually a puppet...but the puppeteer. I think Obama is pulling the strings.

Nobody outside of Chicago had ever even heard of Obama before (well, other than a brief appearance at the DNC when Gore was running). How the heck did a nobody like him end up, not only in the White House, but running all over the world claiming to be its leader, not only political but spiritual - and BEING ACCEPTED AS SUCH to great acclaim?

It makes absolutely no sense.

IMHO, it is b/c in this world there are extraordinarily rich men to whom money means nothing, but power means everything. Some of these play "the Great Game" for sinister reasons, others b/c they simply can -- both like schoolboys who pull the wings off of butterflies.

"The radical agenda violates all of the rights at the core of ordered liberty, presumes to repeal the laws of economics, condemns the traditions essential to civil society, and applauds banality as it snubs excellence. Unearned rewards and unpunished crimes endorsed by the radical agenda corrupt the people’s sense of justice. In support of secularism, the agenda attacks the religious foundations of morality and altruism and replaces faith in God with idolatry of government." Dr. Lyle Rossiter, Jr., M.D. The Liberal Mind

Obama is not a god. He is a southside Chicago politician who, by great good fortune demonic blessing, corruption, and voter fraud, managed to get to the White House.

Fixed.
