Wimbledon girls are 'just there to sell sex', says BBC pundit Michael Stich

As a former Wimbledon champion, Michael Stich might be expected to have an expert appreciation for the skill and dedication required to play tennis at its highest level.
But on the eve of this year’s tournament, the BBC Radio 5 Live commentator has caused outrage among the sport’s female stars by claiming their role is as much about ‘selling sex’ on court as it is about their sporting prowess.
Stich, the 1991 men’s singles champion, made his politically incorrect comments last night as he waded into the argument over the loud grunting of many of the game’s top women.

The 40-year-old German said the noise detracted from the players’ ‘sex appeal’.
He said: ‘Just play it back to the women. It sounds disgusting, ugly, unsexy!’

I like girls basketball. I am a sports fan, but must admit that I notice the girls playing, not just the sports of basketball itself.
Heck this stuff goes both ways. I’ve heard from years from women that certain ballplayers are cute or attractive. And they appreciate some of the athletes for things other than their ability to hit the baseball.
Womens Vollyball aint bad either.

I like the women's games as much as the men's.
I do think they should have to play 5 sets though. Equal sets for equal prize money

The problem with what Stich said is the word “just”. To say that there is no sex involved is to deny the obvious. To say that it’s only about sex is to neglect the fact that these are superb athletes, playing their sport at a level that few men could ever dream of achieving. And I’m sure athletes like Michael Jordan, Michael Phelps, Rafal Nadal have all been also marketed with sex in mind.
I think Stich will soon find out that he stepped in it with both feet.
