Chimp dies, others mourn. Interesting picture and story.
More like us than we give them credit.
All God’s creatures.
I saw the headline and thought “somebody whacked Barack?”
Now before anyone tosses that ‘racist’ label around, it was perfectly ok for the left to sneer about GWB being a ‘chimp’ for eight years, so they should be prepared for the occasional snicker now that their non-achieving pretender has ascended to the throne, lol
Wonder how the “evos” will react to this?
"Toots (my typical white Gramma) died today...or maybe it was yesterday...(I'm not sure, I didn't even know that she had been in hospital at death's door with cancer for four months)...while I was playing golf with Kerry and Emanuel. When I heard the news, I finished my round (I carded a 103, my best ever...) shot some hoops (including one sweet three-pointer..) got sweaty and stinky (with Michelle...) and then did some laps (we both lapped!) with Bo, while Valerie made the unpleasant arrangements!
Toot's cremation was yesterday. (small joke: in Spain they call the place a "tanatorio" because first you tan then you burn. I love that..!) Anyway they sent the ashes over in wrapped in the NYT of Nov.5th (note to self: find out who the clever clogs is and bring him/her/it into the WH.) and tomorrow I'm flying to Honolulu on AF1 with Michelle, the girls, the dog, Axelrod, for a slap up lunch of jerk chicken (named just for me!) Poi (Michelle's namesake) and a strewing of ashes into a boiling ocean!
Oh! The Sun! That Sun! I don't know what I'm doing or why I'm doing it!"
***Wonder how the evos will react to this?***
I’ve seen both a deer and a large owl alongside a busy highway mourning for their dead partner. I’ve also seen a flock of crows mourn (loudly) over a deceased member of the flock. So, I guess that the evolutionists will have to include hooves and wings in our evolution.
You know what? I goofed. I meant to say “I wonder how the creationists will react to this?”
It’s the height of foolishness to anthropomorphise animals. Who really knows what they are thinking? They might be standing and looking from curiosity, they might be thinking “hey, don’t bury that, I haven’t had lunch yet!”
Animals can be cute, funny, and loyal. I have animals in my house right now whom I love and am kind to. They, however are still animals, and to ascribe human thoughts and emotions to them is silly.
They have emotions, thoughts and feelings, just not human ones with the same outward indicators.
Mrs. AV
i was an anthropology major in college. my primate behavior class professor would show us videos of gorillas/chimps performing what could be called a human behavior. then a researcher would come on the screen and say, "look at Coco holding her arms up like she wants to hold the baby and love the baby and is sad the baby is taken from her."
after the video, my professor would say, "how the hell does this researcher know what is going through that gorilla's head?!"
it opened my eyes to this sort of thing. too often, apes repeat a learned behavior in order to get a reward. in this case, yes, we are seeing a snapshot of what could be construed as 'mourning.' but how do we know? they could all be looking because they want to rip the carcass to shreds and cannibalize it (a behavior that has been observed in chimps.)
bttt
You are better than I am. I tried to copy the picture and
the Sun’s software blocked me.
I was thinking about them living in captivity and then it occurred to me they at least live to ripe old ages that way.
The article mentioned the locals used to hunt and eat the chimps.
I just thought it was an interesting picture and story.
Who knows what animals do or don’t appreciate? It does make
them easier to eat if we don’t ascribe very much reasoning power to them.
The fact that chimps do this is now surprise. Jane Goodall documented the life of a young male chimp born to an elder mother who spoiled the child rotten and often demanded that her younger daughter assist in caring for the child. The young chimp never left his mother's side as he grew to be an adult. The mother died of old age and the young male died shortly after.
And? What's your point?
Maybe for you, but their taste is what makes them easy to eat for most of humanity. You bucking to be the new animal rights czar's secretary?
