f i lived during the middle ages, i would have become a nun... i do sometimes have daydreams of being a nun... even as a young girl i would daydream about that... i know i have completely romanticized what it would be like... even more appealing to me is the idea of being a monk! haha...

As someone who works closely with people there seems to be a great big hole in our culture that was previously filled by convents and monestaries. Places where people who dont quite fit in society can be connected and with one purpose. People who are passionate and need a channel with meaning (Star Trek doesnt really do it). I think that religous orders are important and would make our culture a better place.

St. Augustine also said,

“O Lord, make me a saint! But not yet!”

BTW, his long-suffering mother St. Monica insured through her prayers that he would indeed achieve sainthood.

Can't imagine her having the kind of glamorous life she claims to have had. I am happy, that she has turned her life around though. Serving God rather than our selves is a very rewarding thing to do.

St. Augustine also said,

“O Lord, make me a saint! But not yet!”

And my grandmother used to say:

“Devil, get behind me, and PUSH!”

Yeah...I couldn't be a Nunn either. And they wouldn't let me make beer at the monastery or at the Buddhist temple.

So I got married. Same thing.
(not really crazy about that 'no sex' rule though)

You can’t get nun from a nun.

I read This House of Brede many years ago and it made a great impression on me. I highly recommend it. But it’s upsetting, be forewarned. The crisis in faith for the woman in the book came when her young son died in an horrific way. Her first challenge was giving up smoking. She would lie on her cot at night dreaming of a cigarette.... I’m not a Catholic, but this book was truly meaningful.

One word about living in the middle ages, or ancient whatever, or the Victorian age, that will put a damper on fantastic imaginations:

Dentistry.

While a bit crude, the video of the NJ school kids singing the Obama song was much more offensive.

Nice to hear from someone who has read and enjoyed the work. I really enjoyed the introduction into another world and the characterizations were strong,
