I guess Hasan is a Manly-Man.

Talk about a hand cannon!

Do not be deceived. This was no random act of violence or a “Falling Down” incident. This guy was a pro.

He's an American citizen (or even if he was only an alien) with a valid driver's license, he could buy that weapon at many local gunstores for about $1k. Ammo is readily available, though rarer than .45 or 9mm.

No reason to go all anti-gun, track down the dealer on this. Unless he eluded any background check, no laws were violated.

Caliber or MM? What's the difference? It's just a big, scary gun to the AP reporter. They should all be outlawed, right?

The media will never ask those questions. Too hard for them to comprehend. Critical thinking is not part of their job.

[But, I am willing to settle for him getting the needle.]

Along with a guard’s threat of a ‘little pork grease’ on it...! Sadly the prison system seems to be good for converting MORE muslims!

NOT a "specialty gun." I have come very close to buying one myself. It is a newer firearm and the very things that made it attractive to me as an American exercising my right to keep and bear arms made it attractive to him.

The gun is not the evil here, the man is. Jeeez Louise! this place is sounding like DU suddenly.

Tiny bullet, high capacity, high velocity. He planned this out with help.

You miss my intent.

I am anything but anti-gun.

My point is about WHO (of potential interest) provided the ammo and weapon. If a legit dealer sold it, no worries. Was it a legal purchase? dunno.

My point is to follow the trail backwards to see if there are leads.

the trail might lead nowhere, but then again, it might not.

They say he has been spending a LOT of time at the range lately. His internet postings should have alerted them that this was a problem person.

If we are too scared to identify the enemy, we will never defeat it. I learned that from Harry Potter. =o)

No no, readily available...if somewhat expensive. ONly the specialty AP ammo is restricted to military and police use.

'I am going on information I got. Am I wrong?"

I believe that they make two kinds of Ammo for this particular weapon, Armor piercing and a Nato or Ball-full metal jacket. The former is not available for civilian purchase, at least not in the US. The later is, but as PONTIAC pointed out, it's hard to find and expansive.

I also believe that there's only one model for the 5.7x28mm weapon that's available for purchase in the US - could be wrong. The weapon is made by Fabrique National (SP?), which is a high-end manufacturer out of Belgium who makes a couple different weapons systems for the US, including the M249 SAW.

TEXAS HAS THE DEATH PENALTY
I would hope he lives and faces trial in Texas!!

While I share your sentiment; does Texas have jurisdiction, or the US Army? What court will end up trying him? Texas will have no problem reducing his carbon footprint - however based upon the USARMY's miserable failure to execute the scum bag who threw a gernade into the tent during the first Desert Storm - I fear that this man will live a long life.

I doubt that he will.

He committed murder on a Federal Reservation. He was a serving Army Officer that shot serving Army personel.

He will be tried in a military court and serve out his sentence in a Federal prison.

He could possibly stand trial for treason but a don’t see that happening in Obama’s army.

NO it doesn’t penetrate armor. The 5.7 bullet will when shot out of a 5.7 rifle with a casing, but not the handgun. Too low of velocity, just 2,200 lbs. or so. A high velocity 22 has 1,500 lbs. Can a 22 punch a round through armor? Nope.
