That Jimmy Stewart was the best
The only movie he was in that I didn`t like was The Spirit Of St Louis,

It is just you, IMO, as great as many pre-1950 movies were. If I made a list of my most favorite films of all, it would be dominated by post-1950 films (but with a large minority of pre-1950 films from the like of Welles, Chaplin, Keaton, Hitchcock, Ford, Huston, etc.). Andrei Tarkovsky believed that the best and most interesting films would be made after the first half of the 20th century. I can’t imagine A Clockwork Orange, 8 1/2, Eraserhead, Brazil, or Fargo made in the thirties or forties.

There was a movie aabout an older man who was engaged to marry a teenager. He was as old as her mother, she, approved and in the end, the audience is aware that mom is dying.
Anyone know the name, I thought it was a forties movie.
Rebecca wasn’t half as good as it could have been because of Selznick’s meddling, he didn’t let Hitchcock make the film the way he wanted.
Just want to thank you for this thread. It has certainly brought back many wonderful memories from my childhood, when my girlfriends and I would have “bunking parties” and sit up watching old movies well into the night on “The Late Show”, and “The Late, Late Show”.
So many of my “favorites” have been listed by others. There were some really good movies back then, and many of the actors were truly “stars”.

I just checked out the trailer for the new “Sherlock Holmes” movie on YouTube; it looks horrible. I’ll definitely not be seeing it, at least I won’t be out $10.00 and two hours of my life.

Sad, but a great, great movie! Think there was a remake, but not as good as the original.
