Hi Freepers, I realize that only a few people are awake, but I am having trouble getting a clear, cliff-notes version explanation of the bill the Senate is about to vote on tomorrow. All I know for sure is that if Pelosi, Reid, and Obama are behind it--it must be very, very bad. It's finally sinking in that something "big" is happening. Up until now, I've avoided really examining the issue and its implications for fear of getting too upset.
I've listened to coverage on every news network and end up being more confused. I realize that it may be virtually impossible to sum up thousands of pages, but if somebody can list the basic things the bill will or will not accomplish, that would be great. I would also like to know:
1) How drastically did Joe Lieberman's provisions alter the bill? What is the difference between a public option and healthcare "exchanges?"
2) What exactly will be the disastrous consequences of this bill for hospital patients? for people diagnosed with long term and potentially fatal diseases?
3) Will any of the damage be reversible with the next Republican administration/Republican majority?
4) Is there ANYTHING the *LEAST* bit positive about this bill?
5) Is there any country's current healthcare system we can compare the model in Congress' proposal to?
Everyone's thoughts and contributions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Simplest terms, obamacare is total control of your life by gubmint.
What is in the bill for words is meaningless, the bill will be used to exert influence and control by future modifications.
You don’t know much about the health care bill and yet you ask a question like this:
“How drastically did Joe Lieberman’s provisions alter the bill? What is the difference between a public option and healthcare “exchanges?””
#
I have two questions for you:
1. Are you a high school student looking for help with your homework?
2. Why are you so concerned now — where have you been?
Inner Party Member O’Brien (from Orwell’s 1984) explains it all quite clearly:
“The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power. Not wealth or luxury or long life or happiness: only power, pure power. What pure power means you will understand presently.”
I know enough to understand the prospect of a “public option” of course.
I realize what’s wrong with other countries’ universal healthcare systems. I understand what Sarah Palin means by “death panels” and the potential for rationing. I understand the high taxes part.
What I don’t understand is the practical, day-to-day basic things this *SPECIFIC* Senate bill (being voted on tomorrow) is seeking to accomplish. The bill changes everyday, it’s different from the “House” bill, all these amendments get added or taken out or altered, etc...and I cannot keep track. I just want a clear-cut understanding of the basic essentials of what the Senate bill proposes and how it affects us as patients. I wanted people’s opinions on the other points I touch on. Like if someone sees any ounce of positivity in it at all? Whether the damage is reversible, etc...
1) It's not about health care, it's about power.
2) It's unconstitutional.
The states are getting up in arms over this. It's developing into a practical example of a state nullification effort in action, right now, regarding this health care monstrocity.
States join to fight and nullify Federal Health Care legislation
Sorry, just looked for the story and can’t find it.
Myself, I drew the line when enrolling became MANDATORY.
That seems to be the first time that living, even in the US had a price tag attached to it.
That seems to go way beyond what those in Boston went through about a Tea Tax (representation) and now to be forced under penalty of fee/tax or imprisonment!
This ‘insurance bill’ will force all citizens to either have insurance or be taxed/imprisoned if they don’t comply!
It’s not a health care bill, it’s an INSURANCE BILL!
Well when Mommy and Daady love each other very much.....

You seem to (purposely) be missing the point ... What this bill says it will do JUST DOESN'T MATTER ... it is more than the camels nose under the tent , it puts the camel in the tent up to it's second hump. This bill means that I will move my family overseas to my farm where my boys can grow up in freedom , maybe someday they can come back when and if the American people rebel. To answer your question succinctly ... WHAT EXACTLY DID THE FIRST BREACH OF THE COMMERCE CLAUSE DO? ... it affected a farmer growing a small amount of wheat ... now it's used (unconstitutionally) to regulate EVERYTHING.
OK... So it’s late and I didn’t word my question properly. Whatever, it’s not like any of the people voting on it tomorrow have read the thing either.
OF COURSE I know the issues pertaining to the *overall* healthcare DISCUSSION. What I want clarified for me are the major specifics of the *Senate* bill being voted on tomorrow. It gets hard to keep track of how the bill has changed from Obama’s original intent, to the “House” version, to this. It’s hard to keep track of all the amendments that have been addeded, subtracted, or simply altered.
I want to know how upset I should really be. Is it super catastrophic? Is this really the death of the USA as we know it? Is ANY of the damage potentially reversible with a new administration and new congress in the future?
And just practical day-to-day stuff, how does it change our lives? What country can we compare our future system to? To Canada’s? To England? To France? They’re all different. That’s what I want to know.
“The bill” to date is not finalized (nor has it ever been).
If it passes the Senate vote on 12/24 it will go back to the House for what I will call here, consideration/hashing out between the Senate and previous House versions.
(in other words, there is no actual bill, nor has there been, nor will there be even if/when it passes voting...confused?)
Personally, if YOU are unsure as to the meaning, affect of the bill, you should oppose enactment and tell your representative so.
It is THEIR job to inform you and it’s your responsibility to tell them that they have not informed you and therefore are not representing you.
Bottom line, my opinion, it’s a bad bill, for many reasons, the primary reason being that it’s unconstitutional.

I see you do understand ... they don't care what's in it because it doesn't matter AND ONLY AN IDIOT WOULD FIGHT OVER MINUTIA OR EVEN EXPEND ENERGY ASKING WHAT IT ALL MEANS , what matters is that the regulatory framework is put in place ,, what it says that frameworks job is DOESN'T MATTER because it will change.. That is the point ..
I realize that we are “moving towards socialism...” I’ve realized that the moment Obama became President.
At this point I am just “facing the reality” of it being passed and simply want to better understand how these inevitable changes are going to affect my day to day life with regard to healthcare.
I’m also curious to know if any of this damage could be reversed in the future. Suppose Obama and his Dems don’t manage to find a clever way to fraudulently steal 2010 and 2012’s elections, would we just be able scrap the whole thing and make a new bill with a Republican majority Congress and Republican President?
If you have an HSA, wave bye-bye to it.....
There should be no question in your mind now. So, you tell me what this "bill" means to your day to day life.
By the way, the vote is on right now. Life is about to change drastically.
