Feds to sue Toyota over lumbar support

(Washington, D.C. 3/18/10) The Federal Government today announced they will be going after Toyota for what they deem to be problems with the lumbar support mechanism in their cars and trucks.

A partial transcript appears below. The full article will appear in the Times tomorrow:

"This action is being taken in addition to the faulty sudden acceleration problem that has previously been discussed and required government intervention to solve. We find it difficult to believe that owners of these autos have to actually, in some cases, manually adjust the lumbar support by twisting a knob on the seat. These supports should have memory capability that allows the support to automatically adjust to the drivers body. By having to squirm in the seat to reach the knob, undue pressure may be placed on the accelerator resulting in an unwanted increase in speed."

"We want everyone to know that auto companies owned by the government are addressing this problem but this should not be taken as an endorsement of our products. We want all companies to compete fairly and safely."

Sad that I had to look for the Satire in this :)

“We find that Toyota owners must reflex one or more muscle groups. This, as you may know, is intolerable. A driver should not have to use ANY muscle group, including the brain.”

Ummmmmmmm...let me guess...government motors cars have these?

Bstrds. Pretty soon, we will have no friends willing to build here and THEN the job losses will REALLY have us in soup lines...where the Marxists want us.

Are you f***ing kidding me? Because they have to MANUALLY adjust the lumbar support they might accidentally step on their gas pedals???? This is insane.

This is absurd! My old Honda Civic doesn’t have a lumbar support knob or anything else to adjust. Are they going to sue Honda? And what moron is going bend to adjust a knob while the car is in motion and the driver’s foot is on the accelerator?

Obama Motors is trying to drive its chief non-union competitor out of business. Toyota executives and workers ought to be screaming bloody murder. They’re not because they, like everyone else, are now terrified of Obama’s bullying tactics.

DEEMocrats are only interested in one muscle group.

If you cannot manage to drive responsibly, and cannot manage to adjust a manual lumbar support knob without at the same time mashing uncontrollably on the accelerator, then you're an effing idiot who should never have been issued a license to drive (to kill, in your case) in the first place! Geez! What would these people have done thirty years ago, when windows were hand-cranked? To listen to liberals talk, you'd think that the entire human species would have gone extinct without some coddling nanny-state there to keep all the worries away.

I have a real problem with my Tacoma pickup. The rear camper sliding window is hard to operate. I really have to squirm to get it open when I need to throw a beer can into the bed.

The government should go after Chrysler. I have owned three of them over the past 40 years. Not only did they have uncomfortable seating, they were rust buckets as well.

Chrysler has done nothing in the past 50 years but make the worst in class vehicle. Only 2 Chrysler product can pass the new crash tests which were developed last year. This is 2 out of 100 cars tested.

Don't hold your breath for the government to get involved since the UAW owns 55% of this company.
