Last August, we wrote about the "Double Down," a mysteriously tempting (and potentialy lethal) new food item being tested by KFC. For those coming late to the story, it's bacon and cheese sandwiched between two pieces of fried chicken. And now, many months later, I'll finally be able to get my hands on one.
KFC announced the decision to go live with the Double Down yesterday, but we weren't sure they weren't playing a April Fools gag. But no, they truly are going nationwide with the delicacy on April 12.
The sandwich will be available in two forms. The Original Recipe sandwich will set you back about 540 calories, 32g of fat and 1380mg of sodium. The not-as-bad-for-you Grilled Double Down totals 460 calories, 23g of fat and 1430mg of sodium.
Looks like more “big butt” food; I’ll pass. It probably comes with a large order of french fries and a 32 oz sugared soft drink!
But they are free to offer it and people are free to buy it. At least until the food police come by and stop them

I am curious. Are you being serious about KFC selling chicken livers? If so, where in the country is that popular? Here in NY I have never heard of that item being on their menu. But then, maybe you are just pulling our collective legs. :)
Interestingly from what I recall, it is no more calories than a MD Big Mac; and far fewer than their Angus Swiss burger.

Yes. I actually love KFC chicken livers. It’s the only thing I buy (along with some gravey, fries and a biscuit) from them. (Not very healthy, but I don’t do it often.)
As for location, I’m not very far away (about 45 mins- to an hour) from where it all started: Corbin, KY...
Thanks for answering my question. I still am suprised as I literally never heard of anyone eating KFC chicken livers. The reason I am making such a big deal about this is that I love chicken livers and would love to try them there. But I have a feeling the chicken liver meal is not popular in the North East so I may have to wait till I travel southwards. Enjoy them!

I may have to try this at home, as KFC and my guts don't get along. Maybe substitute the chicken with chicken fried steak, and add cream gravy? Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
