Weird stuff seems to go with major comets. When a comet appeared in A.D. 60, the people of Rome assumed it meant the impending death of their still new emperor, Nero. He responded by exiling a potential rival. When another comet turned up just 4 years later, ancient historians say he ordered the execution of dozens of nobles. It is said that Moctezuma II saw a comet in 1517 that foreshadowed the downfall of Aztec empire. In 1910, a wave of hysteria swept over the United States amid reports that Earth was about to pass through Halley's tail.

I hate the wind. It’s supposed to be 74 today, and so far, no wind. No clouds, either.

Heat is why I moved here!

75 and raining on and off here. I took the mail to the PO so it wouldn’t end up in a puddle.

Our delivery-person can be rather haphazard with the mail.

Well, I’ve lived in SF, LA and SD, and the climate in SD was the best. I’ve also lived in Mesa, Tucson and Gila Bend. I like the climate in GB best, but the water is very salty and ALWAYS hot!! (Comes out of the pipes in the summer at 104+ degrees, so there is no such thing as a cold shower!)

Vegas is the closet I can get to GB without putting up with the scorpions and other ugly things. On the plus side, by the time one hangs out the last item in the laundry basket, the first one is dry!

Perhaps your delivery person is from Alaska, where they prefer to put mail in PO boxes so they don’t have to go outside.

Or not.

I’ve been stuck trying to pay my online bills while the modem is doing a trick with T-h-e S-l-o-w-s.

There are still bills to pay, but I’ll do them in person, tomorrow. I have to get a larger storage unit, as I don’t intend to have my things sitting outside for another summer.

*sigh*

This morning I was out of the house before 7:00, but didn’t get back until 9:30. Ugh. And my neighbor woke me up last night, thumping and banging. Again. There is one door on hinges and that is to the bathroom. She lives alone but slams the door every time she goes in and out.

Anyway, I’m tired, and I’m looking forward to bed (already!) And a Restorative!

We used to stop overnight in Gila Bend, on the way to Somewhere from San Diego, and back. There was a motel with a flying saucer theme, and it was so hot and dry that even my hair would be dry in minutes after swimming.

I took another bill out to the mailbox, just in time for it to start raining again. Shannon was outside and said it was All My Fault.

Gila Bend is something else again. DId they have the welcome sign, then? “Welcome to Gila Bend, AZ. Home of 1200 friendly people and five old crabs.”

When we moved there, it was six old crabs, because Igor just couldn’t help himself!! LOL!
The town was founded on flat tires and fan belts. No lie!

I don’t remember that sign, no. We would leave San Diego around 10:00 p.m. and drive across the desert all night, stopping in Gila Bend in mid-morning. I guess we were going to Missouri and could make it in about three days.
