File this under no good deed goes unpunished.
A Queens woman who adopted two cats was seriously injured after one of the pair reverted to his feral roots and attacked her, according to a new lawsuit.
The feline freakout sent Karen Costa to the hospital for five days, and kept her out of work for months, her suit alleges.
Costa, an e-commerce consultant, said she was looking to find "a cute furry friend" at an adoption event at the Petco store in Union Square in May 2007.
But the store insisted on a two-for-one deal, convincing Costa to adopt a male cat along with the cute orange female she liked.
She said she brought the cats which she named Harry and Sally home to Astoria where Sally settled in but Harry acted "really strange."
"He was shy and skittish and stayed under the bed," Costa said.
About three weeks after the adoption, Harry went berserk, she said.
"I picked him up to pet him and he just started biting out of nowhere," she said. "He bit hard. I thought he had broken my finger."
Costa, 27, said she needed "irrigation surgery" after bacteria from the cat infected one of the tendons in her right hand and middle finger.
"I got a lot of antibiotics" and stitches, she said. She said she was out of work for five months.

This could be the final blow to the economy.
Sounds like you need a big dog to keep them off the place.
Sounds like a lack of young lads with .22's to me...
It scars me to this day ...
That’s terrible! I can see shooting a cat - it’s quick and humane but that is just too cruel.
I don’t like cats either but I have 8.
Well, we had one which belonged to my daughter (she likes cats so I let her have it) - then some asshole ended up ditching a couple at my house - the one was tiny - I thought too young to get pregnant - imagine my surprise.
We now have 6 little kitties - I admit they are adorable. Soon as they’re big enough to give away, that critter goes back outside (after I have her fixed).
Don’t like cats but can’t see letting them starve either.
Takes a lot of uuumph to bite THROUGH a hand.
There's a lot of meat, bones, and cables running through the hand.
Sometimes I think that cats are just biding their time and some day they are going to have some mass uprising and chew and claw the $hit out of us Homo sapiens.
Yeah, between the two of us.
I was able to capture a kitten that showed up on our lanai at about 3 weeks of age. He was so hungry he was chewing on the dry food I leave out for a couple of semi-ferals. It took me about a week and some rainy weather where I set out a cat cage which was a nice dry refuge near the food dish, but eventually I was able to sneak in from behind and close the cage door. He lived in our bathroom for about 3 weeks until he was old enough to be tested for feline AIDS and leukemia, as we didn’t want him to communicate anything to our fully domesticated furry family.
My son and I spent a lot of time with him in the bathroom petting him, feeding him, and eventually holding him. Since I did most of it, he’s more my cat than our son’s, and he’s still scared of my husband, a year later. When we first brought him inside he got out of the cage for a bit and typical of ferals went absolutely bananas, bouncing off the walls, floors, practically the ceiling. Confined to the bathroom and associating humans with food eventually tamed the wild beast. He will now jump into my lap, snuggle in, and eventually roll so all 4 feet are in the air and he’s enjoying every second. He has the loudest purr of all our beasties.
He’s a beautiful kitty. You’ll get to him, no doubt.
Thanks for the laugh!!!!!!!!!!!
This lady is full of it. The only way she could be legitimately out of work for medical reasons for 5 months from a cat biting her finger is if she failed to seek and follow medical advice promptly after the bite — or if she’s a concert pianist. The article says she’s an “e-commerce consultant”, and as one of the posters on the NY Post site pointed out, “consultant” = unemployed. She wasn’t having much luck drumming up business before the cat bite, and then figured she could use the cat bite as a way to get money.
Liked the story. Thanks for posting.
That is one huge cat!!
Wow, thats quite a story!
Over the years I have adopted many feral/stray cats. While they aren’t as laid-back as house-born cats, they have all mellowed into very affectionate kitties.
I have to tell you about my beloved Squirrel. Many years back, when I still smoked, I used to get up early in the a.m. and smoke outside on the back porch. It was always pitch black in the middle of winter but I didn’t care because I love the morning and I was a dedicated cigarette addict.
One morning, I was out there and I heard a cat meowing. I thought at first it was my very pampered indoor cat who had gotten out by mistake. I kept calling his name when suddenly, out of the blackness something large hit my chest. I put my arms up and discovered a cat there and I had every reason to believe it was not mine. When I got into the light, I found a very skinny, worm ridden, flea infested gray cat looking at me with the most grateful eyes. Now, how can you not feed a cat like that?
After I fed her, she was mine, rather I wanted her or not. She moved onto my back step and would always run to see me when my car pulled in. I’d give her cat food and she would just inhale it. I wormed her, gave her a bath and always found her to be very loving, affectionate and sweet.
She finally worked her way into the house(as cats do). She decided for me that I was now a two cat owner. I went to have her fixed and I got the oddest call from the vet’s office. They called to ask me if my cat was feral. I, of course, said no and was shocked that they would get such an idea since she was so sweet and loving. When I went to get her everyone in the office showed me the deep bites and scratch marks she had left. I guess they needed lead lined suits to deal with her. The poor little gal who went to put my cat in the carrier looked to scared I told her I would do it. Little Squirrel just jumped onto my arms and was so happy I had come for her.
Since then I have learned the she is indeed semi-feral. That cat can nut up in a NY minute on someone she does not know, which means anyone but me. She is obsessed with me and will follow me every place and attack anyone who comes near.
She got the name Squirrel because she is totally gray and when we met her she was skinny as can be except for her long, giant, fluffy tail. Now that she is well cared for and is getting regular meals, I can see she is a long haired cat. I did not know that at first because she was so emaciated and large parts of her coat missing.
Awesome story. Thank you! We had a a large yellow Tom named Simba who would talk right back at you when you spoke to him.
“Hey Simba, howzit going.”
Simba looks you right in the eye; “Mreow ow row reow REOW MEOW!.”
And conversation continues from there...
