Pete Carroll 'absolutely shocked' by USC sanctions: Barf Alert
Seahawks blog ^

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll has responded Thursday afternoon to the NCAA sanctions against his former USC Trojans football team with a videotaped message released on YouTube via his Twitter account.

Carroll said he was "absolutely shocked" by the NCAA's decision to bring the hammer down on his former program with a two-year bowl ban and stripping of 30 scholarships over the next three seasons.

"I am extremely disappointed we have to deal with this right now," he said. "After going through the process from the depositions and interviews over years and years and also participating in the hearing with the NCAA, I never thought there were any facts that supported these significant sanctions that have come forth."

He said the primary issue was always whether the university and his staff were aware of the illegal undertakings at USC. Carroll said they were "not aware of any of these findings" and the NCAA infractions committee had an agenda that took them "beyond the facts" of the case.

"I am extremely disappointed we have to deal

Maybe Baraq will give Pete a Prez Pardon.

...or give him an ambassadorship like 0bama did for the fawning Dan Rooney after the Superbowl.

Having a college responsible for a player's behavior off the field is probably both unconstitutional and unethical.

The player and their parents (whether good or bad people) do have a right to privacy. How without violating a player's privacy do you find out what is going on?
Since the college in most cases can't, how could the NCAA hold a college responsible for a player's life off the field?

If the NCAA tells the college the player is doing something wrong and they ORDER the college to bench them, then fine.
Outside of that, I don't think there is a legality in what the NCAA wants from colleges.

I think USC should take the NCAA to court, the NCAA have been brought to court before at another time and lost.

NCAA disagrees.

The whole amateur athlete system for college football is broken. The colleges are making huge bucks. Just the gate for a USC home game is five million. A player like Bush has millions coming when he turns pro, but is supposed to live poor while he makes millions for the college. That said, currently the NCAA requires the students to not accept compensation for their play other than that allowed under NCAA rules. The colleges are expected to enforce these rules.

I will always defer to Dandy Don Meridith after commenting on a penalty of 12 men on the field;

“Great play if you can get away with it.”

They’ve already rolled Toomers in Auburn. My Auburn friends spent last night celebrating their 2004 National Championship win. I can’t get the Toomer’s webcam to come up, but did see it yesterday.

Oh really?...I’d like to see that. At the risk of being burned at the cross by Auburn fans, the NCAA might rule a joint championship with Oklahoma. Thanks for the post

“This is the first time in over 20 years that they issued a bowl ban for a violation not involving boosters paying players.”

Eh? Bush’s family lived in a sweet house owned by a wannabe-agent. That’s income. In fact, the IRS should be looking at the lack of taxes paid on that income, just like we want for Eric Holder living rent-free at a BP oil exec’s home for 5 years.

This orange-blooded Volunteer is all broken up by all of this.

When asked by the press why they were leaving Tennessee so soon, the blonde Mrs. Kiffin replied, "I knew from the beginning things weren't going to work out. Everywhere we went - the mall, the movies, grocery stores - they had painted the curbs with the slogan, 'Fire Lane'"

The IRS shouldn't pay anything, Bush paid all back rent.
