Liz Cheney joined conservative calls for Michael Steele to resign his post as Republican National Committee chairman because his remarks about the Afghanistan war.

Steele's comments "were deeply disappointing and wrong," said Cheney, daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, in a statement Saturday.

"The chairman of the Republican Party must be unwavering in his support for American victory in the war on terror — a victory that cannot be accomplished if we do not prevail in Afghanistan," said Liz Cheney, who serves as chairwoman of Keep America Safe, a conservative foreign policy group.

Cheney said she fully endorsed a letter by Bill Kristol, another Keeping America Safe board member, that called on Steele to resign.

"It is time for Chairman Steele to step down,” she said.

Steele was caught on camera this week questioning the U.S. military

>>Kathryn Jean Lopez at NRO has weighed in: Hire Palin

This is so transparent. Mittens wants her out of the picture for 2012>>>

Same comments on FR for over a year even from a few Palin supporters.
I always thought this would handcuff Sarah in many ways
even before 2012.
Mitt & Huck can try their sly games, they won’t last through mid primary year.

Ping to #15-—somebody’s trying to push Sarah into another trap!

No worries; as others have already pointed out, Sarah's simply too intelligent to be caught by such an obvious (and poorly baited) trap, hastily dug and inadequately camouflaged by the Kathryn Jean "OOOOOoooh Mittens is sooooo DREEEEAAAAMY" Lopez wing of the party. ;)

I just remembered Sarah has absolutely no use for the RNC. She has told them repeatedly to remove her name from fundraisers and such. The lasted being at the SRLC this year. She ask privately no dice then it went public and ended up in Politico as news.

If Sarah is going to work with the RNC it’s going to be strictly on the state and local level. The only national republican organization Sarah works with is the RGA.

I know she's married. And I'm married.

But gosh, I have a crush on that woman.

What a putz, but at least he doesn't hide his motives and reason!

"A Chairman Palin would help set the right tone for the Republican party without having to get herself entangled in the minutiae of policy-development, which has not been her forte. Sure, she'd be polarizing, but so is Barack Obama, and these are polarized times. And it's one thing to have a polarizing party chairman, another to have a polarizing candidate."

Agreed. RNC chairman is the losers/old-timers bracket.

You said that and my mind went right to Newt. Now this might just be his niche!

Palin does not need the title and all the baggage that comes with the “RNC” label when she’s already running and shaping the party as we speak.

That’s why all these childish attempts to have Steele drop out and “suggest” Palin take his place are lame. The RNC has become irrelevant and so is Liz Cheney.
