Little Rock - Medal of Honor recipient and former Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs Director Nick Bacon has died.
The department announced in a news release that the 64-year-old Bacon died Saturday morning at age 64 after suffering from cancer.
Bacon served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1984 and was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions during a 1968 battle in Vietnam. He served as director of the Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs from 1993
Bacon was born in Caraway in northeast Arkansas and most recently lived in Rose Bud.
Funeral services are planed for 11 a.m. on July 24 at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock
Quite a story about his CMOH, and he was only 22 and SSgt.
RIP.
Rest in Peace

This is the link to the freeper canteen memorial to Nick Bacon.
Please see my post beginning at post 172.
It includes the eulogy delivered by his longtime friend and ministry cohort, Pastor Gene Cunningham (quite a man in his own right.)
The post also has links to the TV station that covered the funeral. and an interview with one of his sons, currently D.I with Army.
Nick was chairman of the board of Basic Training ministries and was able to gather men and women of great christian integrity and courage around him that are still touching the world for the Lord Jesus Christ.
My friends Pastor Gene and Nancy Cunnigham have asked the Bacon family and friends to visit this Freeper tribute to Nick Bacon.
Nicks website is http://www.basictraining.org/
We invite you and your ping list to post your salutations over at the Freeper canteen
