Top 10 TV Shows of All Time
catalogs ^ | July 6, 2010

"Any top ten list is bound to be subjective, but this one has criteria: to make this list, a show must have longevity (Sports Night was great, but didn’t last), staying power (Three’s Company was funny, but hopelessly dated), strong writing (hopefully self-explanatory) and memorable moments (there’s a good reason that the final episode of M.A.S.H. was until very recently the most watched show in television history). Here are my choices, and let the debate begin."

I would give a thumbs up to Buffy, Dick Van Dyke and Cheers.

Never liked Seinfeld. Saturday Night Live’s last 7 or 8 years should put it out of contention. Mash was way too smug and self righteous.

Lost lost me after the second season, but it seems to have retained a lot of fans.

Ah, “Firefly.” Such a tremendous show with such a tragically short life.

My own list:

Firefly
X-Files (first six or so seasons)
Mystery Science Theater 3000 (especially after Mike Nelson took over)
Seinfeld
Dexter
Breaking Bad
Lost
The Office
Star Trek: The Next Generation (mostly from season three on)
Battlestar Galactica (new one on SciFi)
The Shield
Curb Your Enthusiasm

Anyway, that’s what I can come up with off the top of my head.

Man, Fleishman looks young in that pic. Funny how that happens.

A good list. I forgot to mention the brilliant show by Penn & Teller: Bulls Hit!

Freaks and Geeks was fantastic, much more smart than its audience. It chronicled high school when I was in high school and it was so accurate that it was painful. The writing, the acting, the directing was top notch. Paul Feig was a writer, he is now a director and his work is still the best, and he wrote a few great books.

Green Acres was by FAR the best show of all time.

Well, it wasn’t by FAR the best show of all time. But it WAS the best show.

Well, it wasn’t really a show so much as it was a.....yeah, I guess it was, too a show!

What was the topic again?

Hank

9. Buffy the Vampire Slayer     Not a top ten: I never could watch it for one minute. 6. Lost     Not a top ten: I couldn't watch this one for one minute either. 2. The West Wing     Not a top ten: I couldn't even watch the commercials for this one. 1. Seinfeld     Not a top ten: I have watched a couple of his shows through the years in re-runs but never found much satisfaction. People say it was a show about nothing and I agree, but for me that is not a compliment.
