Things could become quite problematic during a rain storm. Regardless, the air quality has to be bad, especially if you are far from an air opening.

That is one of the most amazing stories I have ever read. What do they do for electricity. Actually, to be perfectly honest, the way these folks live underground is a lot like the way the majority of people here in Honduras live above ground.

I think the best bet would be for the city to work off of the idea of underground housing for the homeless, though not as part of flood tunnels. The idea being that in hot, dry deserts, underground living is a lot better than being on the surface most of the year.
The trick would be marginally improving such dwellings so that they can be “unmanaged”, but still have a simple sewer system, and maybe even have potable water available free of charge.
As long as the homeless agree to set up a “co-op”, so groups can live together as tribes, with an understanding that they need to report a few things, like epidemics and fires, they can for the most part be left alone, as long as the nannies can tolerate their being independent.

I’ve heard this story for a few years now, but the population seems to have grown.
Really a sad sign of the times.

Oh, my. They use a water cooler for a shower and WHAT for a toilet? Or maybe I don’t want to know.

Vegas is doing great.
That’s why they reelected Harry Reid.
Still another reason to stay far away.

I work in LV. Had no idea that the storm drainage system was inhabited. We had epic thunderstorms two weeks ago. Every intersection on the west side (Jones Blvd.) was flooded. I imagine alot of the flow came through these structures; out to Lake Las Vegas.
