Yeah, The Godfather was one of my dad’s favorite movies, and we used to watch it at least once a week on VHS.

What’s with the oranges? Every time an orange appeared you knew somebody was going to get it.

...objected to the movie's negative depiction of Italians. As a concession, a producer offered to donate some of the proceeds to the league's hospital fund and to give some of the league's members small roles in the movie.

Mmmm, what were they protesting, again?

Wasn't it Vic Damone who later changed his mind about accepting the role of Johhny Fontaine because it was “offensive” to Italien Americans?

I just can't envision Warren Beatty or Jack Nicholson in the role of Michael Corleone -- a role that now appears was tailor made for Al Pacino and only Pacino.

Thanks for the interesting post Nick and give my regards to Jimmy Gatz and other West Eggers. :-)

I never knew it was a trilogy. Are they counting Part II as two films?

Another little known fact:

The highest-guaranteed-paid actor in The Godfather was:

Richard Castellano (Clemenza)

The film was almost ‘Sergio Leone’s Godfather.’ What an amazing film that would have been.

Pacino only made 35 grand for the first one? Astonding. He MADE the movie. (I know. He was a relative unknown)

Anthony Quinn would have been good in the Brando role.
Don’t like Brando. Never did.

James Caan is SUPER HOT in the Godfather, he’s perfect in that part. I always feel he never gets enough credit for it.

At the 72 Academy Awards (back when there was some class and patriotism in Hollywood), Durante and others . . all they could talk about was The Godfather, which had just come out.

You forgot to ping ME? ;)

I do believe, however, that John Cassavetes (who was considered for the role as a compromise if Coppola couldn't get Pacino) would have been a great choice wre it not for his age.
