Dec. 12: New York Jets assistant Sal Alosi apologized after blatantly tripping Miami's Nolan Carroll on the sideline during Gang Green's 10-6 loss to the Dolphins Sunday.

New York Jets assistant coach Sal Alosi apologized after blatantly tripping Miami's Nolan Carroll on the sideline during Gang Green's 10-6 loss to the Dolphins Sunday.

The strength and conditioning coach was ushered out of New Meadowlands Stadium by a staff member, ignoring interview requests by the New York Post and protected by two security members at an exit.

After the Jets confirmed he was the guilty tripper and the NFL announced it was reviewing the play, Alosi apologized.

"I made a mistake that showed a total lapse in judgment," Alosi said in a statement, adding that he apologized to Carroll and Dolphins coach Tony Sparano. < -- snip -- >

Didn’t see a sarcasm tag there...

For which part? the thoughtful post or the video taping part.

The video comment was in reference to some other incidents which have occurred recently.

1.) The Jets assistant coach clearly intended what he did.

I apologize for being a little LATE to this thread.... I was tied up yesterday.

I had seen short clips of this incident, and thought it was no big deal. Just now, I saw a larger view of it on NBC Nightly News...

There were SIX NYJ coaches lined up... side by side.... NONE of them (including the coach that tripped the player) moved a single step as Carrol approached.

Are you freaking KIDDING me????

This was... OBVIOUSLY... a PLANNED tactic by the JETS.. knowing that the gunner might be knocked OOB, and planning to KEEP him there.

This coach should receive ZERO punishment. IF any punishment is handed down ... (and, I don't think it should)... It HAS to be on Rex Ryan.

Clearly, this was a Head Coach plan.

I was wondering the same thing. Maybe because of all the squawking going on, he was pressured into it.

he was ushered from the field before reporters could talk with him... if it were an accident--he would have insisted so... he called it a "mistake." haha! this is unbelievable...

Yep, hence my comment the player shoulda stayed on the field of play.

you said you don't watch the game... so yes, it's easy to see why you would make such a silly comment...

It was referencing the comparison to videotaping a practice. I see those two things (a coach tripping a player and a coach videotaping a practice) very differently, and not at all on the same page.

I regard the move by the coach to trip or impede an opposing player in that fashion as being a much more serious infraction.

Videotaping a practice won’t end a player’s career.

Tripping a player traveling at speed in a crowded sideline of benches, cameras and equipment could. Fortunately, the guy was not headed into the tangle of people and equipment, but was going parallel to it.

In this case, the player was completely not expecting it (and...the trainer DEFINITELY wasn’t “bracing himself” as someone else opined!) That said, I have no way of knowing, but the guy was acting like he had been shot, so I think he played it up.

Even still, the guy could have ripped something up, and at the pro level, one never knows what injury will be the one to take that final edge off of your ability.

That was why I jokingly posted the Huge Manatee graphic above, I thought the comparison by another poster was overwrought. I don’t see the two events at all in the same light. I still maintain the Jets trainer is downright embarrassed by his own behavior, and knows he ought to be. I don’t know the guy, but I know a little bit about human nature. There ARE people who would have tripped the guy, denied it till the cows came home, and grinned behind the scenes. This guy isn’t that important, and knows he made a huge professional mistake. Who would hire him after something like that? I think he knows that, and he is going to have to work to recover his reputation.

Once you have lost your reputation or integrity through your own actions, it is pretty hard to get it back. Heck, that is probably the only thing this guy will ever be remembered for from now on. If he hasn’t done so, I could see him apologizing in person to this guy next time those teams meet. I sure would if I were in his shoes.

I completely disagree....

I think, it is perfectly clear.... Rex Ryan told those SIX coaches to stand on the edge of the sideline (2 yards OFF the field of play)... and, NOT move if the gunner gets knocked into them...

... THAT was, 'The Plan'.

The problem with 'The Plan' is.... ANY person, standing there... knowing you're about to have an NFL player running at high speed run into your knee... will LEAN into the blow, to prevent damage to yourself.

Have you ever tried to hold your hand on a glass jar when a rattlesnake inside the jar strikes at you?? I've tried... you CANNOT do it. No one can. Not even people who work with the damn snakes every day. It's hard-wired into your nervious system. I think, the same is true in this case.

This was a REX RYAN plan.... it is a DAMN SHAME they have suspended this coach. I am SICK about this...

Perhaps; I see both issues impacting integrity or lack thereof.

The player chose to run right through the coaches. IMO his choice is indicative of a similar problem.

I agree the coach did it on purpose though.

I didn’t really see it that way on the replay. It looked starkly like an attempt to trip the guy.

Here’s the thing...I live in the People’s Republic of Massachusetts. For several years, I had to pass a house every day on my way to and from work that had a sign “Support the Troops-Bring them Home” accompanied for a good time by a Kerry-Lieberman sign, though that disappeared after about a year and a half, but the other one stayed.

I got to the point, that I swear, I wanted to drive over that guy’s lawn, just veer off the road and demolish those signs.

But I didn’t. Because as attractive an option as that appeared, I knew that is not what I was all about. I am a conservative...liberals do that stuff. So while I would toy with the thought and joke with friends, I knew it would never happen.

As heated as things get between sides on the field, I can imagine more than one person on the sidelines has thought about doing to an opposing player just what that assistant coach did...but they don’t.

I think he just got weak, and acted. And regretted.

LOL! Okay, you know I live in the PRM, so there is no slack for the Jets from me, but hey, if that was the plan that they stand two yards off and not move, they didn’t execute very well! Maybe Coach Ryan SHOULD be fired...he is having enough trouble getting his players to execute, now his his assistant coaches are on the blink!

Seriously, though...how the heck would you set it up, all the coaches standing in a line at that one solitary six yard segment where the guy would angle over and make a pass right at that point? I like a good conspiracy theory as much as anyone, but I don’t see it.

Plus, that trainer must have felt sick seeing that guy lolling on the ground, even if he was acting a bit.

At least Vick did his jail time, pay his fine, apparently remorseful and shows a semblance of being reformed. He is still millions in debt, and probably would have to play until his is 70 to pay them off. Rothelisbeger, Ray Lewis, Pac-man Jones and others, seem to just get a clean slate with the law with much worse crimes.

How does the punt returner know where to line up before the kick? They watch tape... they figure on the averages.

I didn't see this until I saw the NBC tape. I GUARANTEE you.. 100%.... no other possible option.. this was a DESIGNED tactic by the Jets.

They had SIX coaches lined up... foot to foot... along the sideline, and NONE of them took a step... including the one that made contact.

Seriously... what are the odds of SIX coaches being lined up, side by side.. standing exactly on the edge of the white line?? It has to be 1,000,000 to 1.

“In general.. Dolphins are pussies....

Don’t want to get tripped?? Stay away from the coaches! :-)

Oh.. yes.. it’s HORRIBLE.. I’m sure the guy will be fired, be publicly caned, and will cry at his presser..

But, for my money... that coach had a RIGHT To be where he was....All he did was brace himself to stand his ground.”

That strength and conditioning coach who was standing there for whatever reason, should have also had a broken glass he bottle in his hand too. He had that right, so he can hold his ground. After all, he was playing the game. /s

Now, had he KICKED the player while on the ground... I’d have a problem.

Ok... I'll draw a line at carrying a weapon. But, if he can stand there.. OFF the field of play... with his hands in his pockets, and get close enough to lean into a player... Then, I say.. GO FOR IT!

Was the play dirty? Yes.

I'm saying... punish the guy who dreamed it up: Ryan.

Or... don't. Personally. I don't believe any coach OFF the field of play has any requirement to get out of the way. And, and long as his feet don't move... I say, it's fair.

You are right about that. The players and assistants of the Jets, play and act like they are coached. I expect nothing less.

This punishment makes me sick. What do you think a strength & conditioning coach make a year?? $60k? $100k? He gets a $25k fine, and suspended for the year?? That's fitting punishment for a player.. who earns $2 MIL a year.

REX RYAN???

You need to MAN UP and take responsibility for this incident. Don't leave your employee hanging out to dry.
