What's your favorite Christmas album?
For me it's Amy Grant's "Home For Christmas" which is a terrific blend of well sung and well produced carols and Orchestral work.
If I want a smile on my face though I get out Dean Martin's stuff or Bob Dylan's "Christmas In The Heart".

There are certain carols that are owned by certain singers. One great example to me is Nat King Cole singing “I Saw Three Ships”.

I have a small stack of Christmas CDs, but my top three have to be the three done by Michael W. Smith (Christmas, Christmastime & It's a Wonderful Christmas). A great mix of traditional and contemporary songs, many of which are instrumentals (the last one was recorded in part at Abbey Road Studios with a huge orchestra and many choirs). MWS is a treasure.
I also love the CDs I have by Vince Gill, Elvis & Brian Setzer and a compilation that has great stuff from folks like Alabama, Jim Croce & Ronnie Milsap.
But if I had to pick one song, it would be I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day by Travis Tritt on his Christmas CD. The message is eternal, and the performance heartfelt.
Great thread!

The song Mary did You Know by Kenny Rogers and Wynona Judd is the BEST new Christmas song!! Wish I could hear it now!! Actually it's not new, and it's not by Kenny Rogers and Wynona. It was written by Mark Lowery, and this performance where he is backed up by fellow Gaither Vocal Band members Guy Penrod and David Phelps is ABSOLUTELY the best performance of the song that you will ever hear.

I really like Bryan Duncan. The red and the green WOW Christmas CDs have a lot of good versions of many different Christmas songs. Point of Grace’s version of O Holy Night is especially good as is ZOEGirl’s Angels We Have Heard on High (the red album). Rebecca St. James’s Hark, the Herald Angels Sing on the green album is very enjoyable.

Before Harry Connick, Jr. was even a gleam in Harry, Sr.'s eye, New Orleans had this guy:
He had a local TV show there for a while, just before moving on to guesting on The Danny Kaye Show. Even now, it's common to hear this album played at Christmas parties in the New Orleans area (particularly in the outer suburban towns, where people moved in the '70s and '80s to escape the blight).
It's so strange how this man faded to near total obscurity, but now is getting airplay again on satellite radio.
