has anyone had problems setting up internet access
I have medicom which says (I think )that I have to use windows os
Wireless depends on the chip in your card.
Boot up with the lived cd and test it out. That’s the point of a live cd.
Linux Ubuntu is about as easy as it gets for a Windoze alternative.
It will find the net for you.
Curiou about this. What’s the point?
I’m surfing FR now with Ubuntu 10.10, love it. Burn a live CD and give her a spin.
One thing: If you decide to install it after trying out the CD, it’s good to defragment your hard drive first. Windows has an option for system cleanup in your menu options. Defragging the drive will let Ubuntu have a good clean patch of drive to install to.
And it is always good to backup your files on Windows first. Ubuntu will put a new boot record on the drive so you can boot either Ubuntu or Windows. If something goes wrong — and it’s highly unlikely — Windows is gone. So just in case, make backups. But you should be ok, for most people it is nearly effortless.
You’ll like Ubuntu.
Psst, over here.... might be worth a list ping.

I loaded Ubuntu onto an old box in the basement. It took five minutes from sing on to get connected wireless. It actually took longer for me to retrieve my password for the router than it did to get connected.
I have done three Mint installs, each was quicker and faster than any windoze install. Ten year olds to college kids use this machine and no one had any problems making the switch.
Merry Christmas..
Aye...therein lies the rub.
I would love to be Linux exclusive at home but my work protocols require that I use Win XP or Win7 to run my company's VPN applications. Your applications like Medicom may be similar.
Wow. This is amazing, I have a question regarding Linux that you or somebody might know how to fix. Our friend’s computer has been infected with a virus. One of those that promised a anti virus but instead destroyed his Windows. He had a family member, a while back, seperate his machine between Windows and Linux; don’t know why but he did. Do one of you techies knowledge of how to fix Windows through Linux?
Have a great Sunday.
You may need to use an Ethernet cable to download the wireless driver for your PC. Once downloaded, you activate and reboot. Then you’re good to go in Ubuntu.
It takes a lot of work setting up third party repositories. Ubuntu Updates.com has a list of them and you need Medibuntu for third party codecs like dvd playback and WIN 32 codecs.
Ubuntu’s Mac OSX-like interface is visually stunning.
