Instead of singing the lyrics “O’er the ramparts we watch’d, were so gallantly streaming,” Xtina sang the line “What so proudly we watched at the twilight’s last gleaming.”

Aguilera’s representatives sent Speakeasy this statement from the singer: “I got so caught up in the moment of the song that I lost my place. I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through.”

If she had gone to an American school, she’d have had the lines burned into her memory.
......oh, wait.

Then they should be ashamed. To shove that kind of crap down our throats each year is disgusting. What does any of that have to do with the game itself? To say that we need irreverent and anti-American morons to ruin our National Anthem and jump around like fools during half time doesn’t say much for their state of mind.

And about the 7 thousand or so people who were jumping around on the field like idiots . . . just where do they sit during the game? . . . Why can’t they just stick to football? If somebody wants to see that other crap, put it on another channel.

That’s what happens when you get a pop culture idol instead of real professional singer to sign the National Anthem. Besides, she was dressed like a Times Square Hooker.

Sorry Aquilera, I can;t imagine ANYONE who REALLY knows the song to screw up like you did. Its a rough song to sing, but at least get the damn words right. Besides, there are several more verse the unwashed masses tend to forget:

THANKS A MARINE!! Maybe they should have had HIM sing the song!!!

Her voice was awful, her botching of the lyrics was unforgivable and her physical appearance was frightning...

That just about covers it....

It was, as it turned out, on another channel. You pay your cable company for it they'll flip your switches for you.

Or, in fact, take your remote and hit MUTE any time you wish.

It was a darned good football game but I could've used one of those double overtime deals ~

My vote would be for Martina McBride to sing our National Anthem. That lady has the vocal range and she is truely an American treasure.

She is “beginning” to look alot like her “Trailer Trash” mother. Give her 2 to 5 more years and the “White Trash” transformation will be complete.

That woman was a disaster. She can’t sing and she doesn’t even know the words.

What really irritated me was not the mistake, but bastardizing the song with all the artistic impression, voice inflection, etc. Just sing the Anthem...it's not about your career this time.

Agreed. Why do so many singers performing the national anthem at football games attempt to make it sound like a Negro spiritual? Is it for all encompassing diversity or because black players are the majority?

Time after time, amateurs to renowned professionals screw up or make a mockery of the national anthem in pregame festivities and it makes me wonder as to how much more will the public endure before we say, ENOUGH!!!

Why do we denigrate the national anthem to the role of an opening act at every sporting event, even the Super Bowl???

“Or, in fact, take your remote and hit MUTE any time you wish.”

Oh, yes. I did use my remote. Didn’t have to hear a single commercial, National Anthem, or the crap at half time.

One commercial that I thought was bizarre was where a black male and female were on a parkbench with a white female. The black male threw something at the black woman who, in turn, ducked, and the white girl was then hit. Rather than apologize to the white girl, they took off. Classy . . . said a lot about where we are racially since that Kenyan got in our White House. Would they have done that commercial with the racial types transposed? I think not.

Saw another commercial where a whole lot of men were getting hit in the crotch . . . one after another . . . I guess it was supposed to be funny?

I was more shocked at her ragged appearance. Rode hard, put away wet.

She has shown some talent in the past. Yesterday she looked like a blonde Elvira. I hope she is OK.
