In this video, the photographer begins at street level - with tsunami sirens wailing - before being forced to retreat up some stairs as the water rises and cars, boats, and even buildings go crashing past. Eventually the whole city seems to be washing away right before your eyes. The destruction caused by the tsunami may rival that of Hiroshima and Nagasakii when Truman dropped the bombs to end WWII, but when the final tally is figured, this will be far more devastating to Japan.
Even before the earthquake and tsunami, many experts were already speculating that Japan's financial troubles, low birthrate, and aging population may topple it from the pinnacle of being one of the worlds most economically powerful countries. It seems to me that this disaster could be the straw which breaks their proverbial back, thus washing away any chance Japan may have had to turn their problems around.

Video Ping.
This is one awesome home video, words just cannot describe it. When you thought you saw it all.
This whole incident in Japan has given me a new perspective on my current troubles.
ALREADY POSTED!!!
=8-)
I checked but failed to see it posted. Oh well
Not sure if awesome is the right word, disturbing may be better, especially at the past few seconds where they panned to people standing on a roof knowing they probably wouldn’t make it.
Utterly inconceivable. And the whole time, not a sound from the videographer.
Good point, but I do not say awesome as in great and good, but instead because of the sheer power behind the water. It just keeps building until all is lost.
Disturbing yes, but awesome in the magnitude and power.
Johnstown Flood magnified a million time or more.
Thanks for posting this incredible video I had not seen it before.
Welcome :>)

OMG! This is incredible!
Sorry that you had to suffer the wrath of the posting police...but I’m glad you posted it. I hadn’t seen it before and it is the best video yet...shows the utter power of this wave.
That looks like a river at flood stage, flowing left-to-right at the video shows it. It looks like a DOWNHILL flood with the water headed to the right side of the screen.
It's actually the Sea - the Pacific Ocean, mind you - being forced to run UPHILL from the normal sea level onto the land adjacent to the beach.
And it goes on for over 6 minutes, with the volume of water increasing all the time.
And don't forget - there were multiple tsunami waves. The video only showed 6+ minutes of one only of them.
There were people in some of those vehicles. They had no chance to get out.
The people on the balcony - they look stunned. But at least they had their lives.
Each second it gets worse. I guess if you see that water you better get out of that vehicle and up as soon as you can, and hope your building holds.
ping for later.
Definitely ping worthy.
Poor people.
the power of water - incredible video link ping
Brave (or stupid) videographer to stay only one stair step away from the rising waters as he/she was filming.
The storefront(?) at the end looked as if it had been built for just such a contingency. It was relatively undamaged and just floating along. I wonder if the proprietor will set up shop again wherever it lands.
Thanks for the ping, OV.
