Apple under fire for approving(Exodus International)app that claims to cure homosexuality
Yahoo! News ^ | Brett Michael Dykes

"There's an app for that."

The catchphrase coined by Apple and their advertising gurus to sell iPhones and iPads has become so ubiquitous that it's even been parodied on Sesame Street. Still, few would have ever thought that the tech giant—which, like many other Silicon Valley concerns, boasts a progressive profile on many cultural issues, and extends domestic-partner benefits to gay and lesbian employees—would condone an app that purports to "cure" homosexuality. It would seem an even greater stretch for Apple and company founder and CEO Steve Jobs to make such an application available through its iTunes store.

Yet the app—by a ministry group called Exodus International—is right there, along the thousands of other iPhone apps available to plugged in Apple users. And this appears to be the point at which many of Apple's cultish fans—including plenty of gay activists—are drawing the line. No, they say: There's not actually an app for that.

The Exodus ministry seeks to promote the "ex-gay" movement—promulgating the testimony of people who claim to have been cured of homosexuality through Christ. The target audience for the smart-phone app, its makers say, are "homosexual strugglers." The idea is to teach gay people that they have a choice when it comes to their sexuality, a choice to choose "freedom from homosexuality through the power of Jesus."

Of course, providing a tech platform for a particular spiritual or ideological movement doesn't signify an endorsement of its point of view. At the same time, however, as Gawker's Ryan Tate noted during an earlier controversy over a gay-themed app, "every time Apple approves an app, it implies moral endorsement of the

In the 60's and before, I think your statements were more accurate than they are now. But today I don't think there is such a presumption. I'd love to be wrong, it's just the direction I see our culture heading since the 70's.

I think it's accurate to say we're born straight, as biology certainly attests to being born straight as well as other areas of science and environmental forces.

My profile has a lot of information on the subject.

If so they already carry an app to cure homosexuality. The details are right in the Bible

Romans I calls them "reprobate." The Bible teaches they are "given up", "given over", and thus beyond cure, along with those who blaspheme the Holy Spirit (Mark 3:29) and those "who take away from the words of the book of this prophesy" (Rev 22:19), God shall take his part out of the book of life. If one's name is not found in the book of life, ...

I am aware of his false assertion beginning in post 4, which I responded to in post 36.

Fortunately the Bible says that even homosexuals can repent and some do repent. 1Corintians 6:9-11 (such were some of you)

The Bible however does say as you point out so well (excellent graphic) that there will be those who continue to live and promote gross sin such as homosexuality.

Some people on FR need to understand that the acceptance of or indifference toward homosexuality is horribly destructive and is symptomatic of a perverse culture that is on its last legs of rebellion against God.

A parallel would be an addict leaving drugs or alcohol.

It does happen, often without any sort of program.

Yes, you did respond, but your post 40 is taking his comment out of the context of the progression of posts. And then you said he made up a comment to justify his post. Rather than saying Grunthor made something up, I think asking for clarification would have been better.

Years ago I was involved with the homosexual agenda threads quite extensively. Since then I've lost interest and I also tired of people assuming the worst if they didn't agree 100% with others. And for that some freepers think I'm liberal on the issue of homosexuality, and one freeper is so confused she's sure I sell videos on the subject. My profile speaks volumes.

I fail all the time but still try to show more mercy and grace than condemnation.

The Bible does not contradict itself. If it does, it is not the Word of God. I know that the modern translations render "malakoi" (masc. plural) and "arsenokoitai" (fem. plural) as "male prostitutes" and "sodomites", but there are no other usages within the NT to comfirm. It seems unlikely that such translations are correct in light of Romans 1:28 which makes it clear that such are "reprobate" and "given over", "given up" by God. Clearly "malakoi" and "arsenokoitai" whatever they mean can be saved. The KJV translates "malakoi" as "effeminate" ("marked by weakness and excessive refinement--ladies' men?) and "arsenokoitai" as "abusers of themselves with mankind" (women who hop from bed to bed?). If Paul had meant active/passive homosexuals, male or female, he could have used other Greek terms and phrases.

I didn't want to believe it at first, but true sodomites who burn for members of the same sex have reached a stage of their depravity where God ceases to strive with them and gives them up. (see Romans 1:18-32). They are reprobate (see "reprobate silver", rejected--Jeremiah 6:30 "Reprobate silver shall men call them, because the Lord and rejected them.). We see here that "reprobate" means "rejected".

What do you mean by "repent"? What saves is "belief on/in the Lord Jesus Christ", not "repenting [from sin]"--a work. See Jonah 3:10--"And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented from the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not." Now, if they change their minds (repent), change from unbelief to belief ("that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ." Acts 2:36-38), then they shall be saved. "He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." (John 3:18)

It is a terrifying picture which emphasizes that the lost have an unimaginable eternity in store for them.

Can a thief stop stealing? Insofar as stealing IS a conscious choice, yes.

I have no idea what that has to do with homosexuality. I suppose they could be celibate, but that would not make them any less gay would it?

“it really is a choice”

Ok then I have to ask you the obvious question; at what age did you make the choice to be attracted to the opposite sex?

No, although that may be your personal concept.

I am saying that sexual behaviors, whether they be homosexuality, promiscuity, prostitution, or any fetishism are as hard to change as overcoming an addiction.

Many people do it, many others fail.

It is difficult, but possible.

And the very reason the gay agenda folks are so angry at the existence of exodus is that it is a huge gathering of people who have done just that - hence the article we are commenting on.

Do you have an agenda that requires you to try to push people who have overcome homosexuality into the shadows so society can pretend they do not exist, Grunthor?

Oh Lord no. I have no such agenda. What I have is a lifetime of being around different kinds of people, gay and straight, young and old. This may have imprinted upon me certain prejudices that kind of make me wonder if the folks this group has “cured” were actually gay or just bi-sexual.

note: I am not stating these people were not gay, I am not stating that they were definately Bi-sexual. I am making a statement more about my own prejudices than anything else.
