PATERSON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) A jury has started deliberating the case of a woman who says she cant close her eyes, even when she sleeps.
Shes blaming an eyelid procedure gone badly, reports CBS 2s Christine Sloan.
Marilyn Leisz showed Sloan her dilemma.
Thats how it is when I sleep. Thats how it is 24-7, 365 days a year, Leisz said.
Leisz said she went to a Bergen County plastic surgeon to correct bumps on her eyelids from a cosmetic procedure performed by another doctor and now she cant fully close her eyes.

I can close my eyes like this, but to blink I really have to really squeeze my eyes to fully close my eyes, Leisz said.
The married mother of two from Bloomingdale was in court Tuesday suing Dr. Paul Parker for negligence. During a break, Sloan asked Dr. Parker and his attorney for comment. They both declined.
But in court, his attorney told the jury Leisz was warned of the risks and that she never complained after the 2005 eyelid surgery called a blepharoplasty.
This patient was given information about those risks, the attorney said.
Leisz disagrees. Her attorney played the opinion of another doctor who said she wasnt a good candidate for this surgery because she had had too many other procedures.
He should have been honest with me and told me I was not a candidate and suggested other options for me, Leisz said.
Leisz said she has to use gel at night and a vaporizer so she doesnt scratch her eyes. She also says shes losing her vision and lives in fear of injuring her eyes.
All the favorite things I used to, like tennis, racquetball, swimming, horseback riding, bike riding, skeet shooting, gardening, I cant do those things, Leisz said.
Leisz admitted to having multiple other procedures before going to Dr. Parker, but said she may be able to correct the problem but shes afraid to go under the knife.
Leisz is asking the jury, which started deliberations, for an unspecified amount of money. The will be back in court Wednesday.
I don’t really understand why anyone except someone who’s seriously disfigured would get facial plastic surgery. Even when it’s done correctly, it never looks that good and the risks of something going wrong just seem too high.
There oughta be a law.
Marysol’s mother Elsa on the Housewives of Miami is another catastrophe. She can’t even talk.
How many "multiple other procedures"? And just now she's afraid to go under the knife. How many times have these procedures gone wrong. She played the odds and lost. Sorry, but she should have left well enough alone.
Now that scared me!!! Great time of day what is wrong with these women? Do they hate themselves that much?
I had LASIK performed in Turkey. When they blade started to slice my cornea, I let out a yelp. The doc stopped, spoke to his assistance, and then apologized to me. Told me they forgot to put the numbing drops in, and since he already began cutting, couldn’t stop. You can imagine how bad that hurt.
It’s like an Edgar Allan Poe story ...
Oh Man... It had to be tough keeping still.
This is a woman who had 10 or more plastic surgeries. She certainly knew there were risks. The extremely modest judgment shows that the jury thought Dr. Parker was competent, too.
She kept rolling the dice. Pretty soon - she had to know - that she would come up with snake-eyes (pardon the pun)
I think $115,000 is very generous. I’d given her something. But not that much.
I take it you don’t find the doe-eyed innocent look attractive.
What was the outcome? I have complications from Lasik. They have lifted and scraped my eyes eight additional times. Just call me one eyed Jack.
Bloomingdale woman awarded $115,000 in eyelid malpractice suit
A jury awarded a Bloomingdale woman $115,000 Wednesday in her medical malpractice suit against a Paramus surgeon who performed cosmetic surgery that left her unable to shut her eyes or blink.
It was a mixed decision, as jurors found that Dr. Paul Parker did deviate from the accepted standard of care in performing the surgery called a blepharoplasty on Marilyn Leiszs eyelids and that this caused her injury. The panel, however, rejected Leiszs other civil allegation that she was not fully advised as to the risk of incomplete eye closure as a possible consequence that comes with undergoing a blepharoplasty.
