A flock of ten flamingoes have met a brutal end at a zoo in Eskilstuna in eastern Sweden after a curious anteater broke into their compound and clawed them to death, leaving a further five birds nursing injuries.

Cats are cool!
Shannon is unhappy because we moved the snake into Tom’s room. She (Slytherin’ Susan) was in my bedroom, by the large east-facing windows, providing Shannon with plenty of sunbeam time on a high perch with interesting prey to contemplate (when she wasn’t fast asleep.)
There’s no sunbeam in Tom’s room, and the cage isn’t near the window, although it probably should be to keep Pat and Vlad from climbing out the window. Shannon has to sit on the windowsill or (gasp!) the floor.
Bob, this is the only sane place in the whole universe.
Hi Pippin! Glad you’re back. :-)
Something else you missed out on, I lost my Kearen cat on March 27th.
Her hyperthyroid and other issues caught up to her.
Chop it up and put it in your compost pile.
Better yet, serve chilled cucumber soup on a hot day.
* 5 cucumbers
* 1/2 cup chopped parsley
* 6 scallions, chopped
* 2 tablespoons chopped fresh dill
* 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
* 1 quart buttermilk
* 1 pint yogurt
* Salt and freshly ground pepper
Peel cucumbers and cut them in half, scraping out seeds. Sprinkle the cucumbers with salt and let them stand 30 minutes. Drain excess water.
Chop the cucumbers coarsely and put the pieces in the blender along with scallions, dill, lemon juice, buttermilk, and yogurt. Blend at high speed. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Chill well before serving.

What a cute photo!
Aha! That sounds good, and will use them all up. There’s only so much tzadziki dip one needs, even around here.
I love tzadziki.
If I didn’t have to talk to the public, I would eat it every day. With extra garlic.
Well, (speaking of the Flying Castle and associated Habitats), we don't have any cars or trucks, child labor laws, immigration problem, global warming problem, moon, tides, storms, or even noticeable weather.
We do have overnight condensation on the Flying Castle's canopy that gets released as "rain", and we have a gentle breeze that springs up in the morning as air pressure equalizes between the Habitats.
We have an unequaled and unimpaired view of the stars and outer planets for any who care to look and are not disturbed by our rotation, but for most of us the canopy is the limit.
It's a self-made world, and part of its appeal is that if you can't or won't get along with your neighbor, you may be asked to leave. That has a very calming effect.
Note: Jumping out the airlock and attempting to replicate the annual “Moon Amtrak” as you fly past a porthole is NOT recommended.
Some basic safety precautions do need to be adhered to.
I like it, too, but I already have a batch of baba ganous in the fridge ... with extra garlic. If we were having 30 people over for a Middle Eastern feed, that would be different.
Actually, Darks, anyone who thinks that might be a good idea is encouraged to try it.
Quality of the gene pool needs to be considered in an environment where background radiation is higher than Earth-normal.
I like to introduce these little snippets of sanity just to keep things on an even keel.
Thank you, NnB, for this beautiful poem. May I keep it?
Yes, of course. It is yours.
I meant to ping HKMk23 to it as well.
I found that it was something I’ve wanted to say for a while. I’ve lost brothers before.
Excellent, good wordsmith. Excellent.
You know what’s ironic? It had been my intent to actually — finally — coordinate an in-person meeting with our Piper and his good wife. Their hotel accommodations were scarcely two miles from my home. It was all but a lock; a cinch.
Well, we met, alright. Just not at all under the conditions I’d envisioned.
So, in a sense I feel I was robbed.
The good man was so well-traveled that several Freepers have had the privilege of meeting him “in the flesh,” and just when I thought I had my own opportunity, The Almighty had a different plan afoot.
The Jews sometimes say, “If truth is stranger than fiction, it is because it has a better Author.” [And if you Google the phrase, in quotes, most of the hits will be Jewish websites.]
But I’ve a friend of many years so utterly convinced of the strangeness of Truth that he has re-cast the saying as an unequivocal statement, “Truth is stranger than fiction, because it has a better Author.”
My own experience is that his version is more truthful.
Beautiful poem, NNB.
a snake, ugh! keep the cats, loose the snake!
Hi fanfan! good to be back.
All we need now for the flying castle is a ghost.
Someone mentioned the phantom Piper?
No disrespect intended!
