If anyone out there wants to get me a birthday or Christmas present, or just give me something because I'm such a nice guy, I want the civilian version of the gun that killed bin Laden.
I know. Catholics are not supposed to celebrate the death of anyone, even bin Laden, the way I have.
But like most other conservatives, I do not believe in the perfectibility of the human race. We are flawed beings separated from God by our humanity.
The way I figure it, I probably have a few hundred thousand years ahead of me in purgatory anyway, so what do a few more years matter now?
Is it wrong to celebrate a death guided by the hand of Michael the Archangel?

YES.
Is it moral NOT to celebrate?
Celebrate may be the wrong word. It is moral to be joyful whenever evil is defeated by good.
And YES again!
it is wrong for barack to be using it to get re-elected and campaign with. he had very little to do with it.
No it’s not wrong.........this is how I see it...
... An evil man who promoted evil and destruction to many people is gone. Many are not fully aware of the evil this man inflicted in the world..... He killed many innocent people brutally..... another will arise in due time ... there are many already doing evil to the innocent.... He is dead, but many died along the way.
40 SEALs have died fighting the war against terrorism. A few widows and children are left behind. Osama bin Laden’s death doesn’t undo this or the attacks that have been committed during his lifetime. ............But there is pleasure in knowing that the government is following through with God’s command to bring........ “wrath on the one who practices evil” (Romans 13:4).
Goliath was a tyrant who had been taunting Israel for a long time as had bin Laden been terrorizing the U.S. for about ten years. Both Goliath and bin Laden were shot in the face but with different weapons. Both bodies were immediately disposed of......David in 1 Samuel 17.
David and his mighty men are on the run from Saul when David gets word that the Philistines are plundering the people of Keilah..... God’s desire was for David to proceed onward “using violence to stop this evil”.... Ben Laden was even more evil.. .....Samuel 23:1-5.
Tthe Bible essentially says that “it”... (i.e. the authorities or government) ....”does not bear the sword for nothing” and that it is a “minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil........Romans 12:19 to Romans 13:4
This is the opening line of a song of celebration Moses and the people of Israel sang following the drowning of the Egyptian army when the Red Sea closed in on them. In the Old Testament, the song goes unchallenged by God.......I will sing to the LORD, for he has triumphed gloriously; horse and rider he has thrown into the sea. ......Ex:14:2615:21.)
A Christian celebrates what God celebrates and mourns what God mourns. And we know with certainty that God mourns the loss of any man’s soul.
That is a good way to phrase it patrick1
My celebration consisted of drinking a toast.
The drink?
Two shots and a splash of water.
well that’s the problem isn’t it?
No, that's the "Good News", that He came and died to save all men from their sins.
I was happy because justice was served. That’s it.
More, Al!
bin Laden has been the same as dead for a long time. He lost his freedom.
I know that, but I did kind of celebrate and so did just about everyone I know.
The SEALs did not take Bin Laden's soul.
Bin Laden's soul was taken by Satan in his guise of the false prophet Mohammed.
Is it moral to walk by a beggar on the street? Is it moral to betray your brother, sister, lover? Is it moral to fire an employee and export his job? Is it moral to drive through a red light? Is it moral to pick up a dollar on the street and not ask who lost it? Is it moral co cut off someone in traffic?
We do nasty things to each other day in and day out without second thoughts, and then we agonize over things done by others supposedly in our name? Is that moral?
What royal luxury to consider such questions! The Saints Go Marching In!
No, they did not take his soul. They took his life, and in my estimation, justifiably so. Nevertheless, by doing so, they sealed his fate (no pun intended), and by all appearances, he lost his soul. And that is something a Christian can never celebrate.
