I have all 3 and watch them on a large screen LED set, if this new version is an improvement on the quality I already see, then I need new glasses or something, it already looks awsome!
My favorite all-time movie/trilogy. I watch it every year and have pre-ordered the blu-ray extended version from Amazon.
I’m with you, Race.....LOVE the movies, but watching them on the ol’ big screen is awesome. No real, compelling need to go see them in the theater again.
Glad to see them keeping the franchise going, though. Truly amazing film making.
yes, but the 3 boxed sets of the extended editions cost me about $200 or so if I remember correctly, buying all three one at a time, how much is the Extended versions in Blu-Ray going to cost? Will I need a loan??
Ditto to that.

Awesome. Now I can take my son to see it.
I kept on waiting for someone to say "Yellow Wizard is about to die" or "Green Elf shot the food"
Would have made them somewhat watchable
$83.99 is the current price at Amazon. The price may or may not drop as the release date of June 28th nears.
Wow, time flies. I know a lot has changed in the world since 2001-03, but it hardly seems like much time has passed since I was watching those films as new releases in the theaters.
I guess evil wicked Hollywood will get more of my money.
Great even on a small screen, but:
Frodo is too young.
The book is really about Sam.
The best thing about Ian McKellen as Gandalf is The Hat.
Same here. I have em in 1080 MP4 versions. Connect my laptop to the TV and enjoy.
I’ve been watching Game of Thrones as my LOTR addiction kicks in.
The movie versions of the book sure beats the prancing elves singing tra lalala in the actual book. =O
LOL! It is a good hat, at that! :-)
Good point; however, IIRC, Hobbits don't reach the age of majority until they turn 30, so I think the initial encounter in the movie between Gandalf and Frodo would be appropriate (considering that Hobbits age slowly). However, according to the book, Frodo left The Shire with the ring 20 years after that, so yes, he should have aged somewhat (I was a little irritated how the movie made it seem like the flight from The Shire took place shortly after Bilbo's 111'th b'day party).
One final gripe about the movie portrayal of Hobbits: I think Merry and Pippin in the movie were made out to be too unserious and silly. In the book, Merry especially was a lot more mature - Pippin, of course, being the youngest, was more careless.
I agree. Notwithstanding, I think Sean Astin did a terrific job in the scene with Shelob ("Return of the King").
So I waited for this edition.
Don’t do it! I’m not sure how long they can keep doing this. Although I have the out-takes reel which is worth its weight in platinum. Elijah getting the giggles while he hangs in the spider web is the funniest thing I’ve ever seen.
Its not that Peter wouldn’t release the extended versions. The theatre owners wouldn’t run them because longer movies mean less daily showings. He hated cutting them down.
Conversion to 3-D is next after inserting characters ala Star Wars.
