Pretty bad news
The Vanityville Bugle | June 29, 2011 | 2ndDivisionVet

Posted on 06/29/2011 7:50:49 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Went to my doctor for the first time in awhile and got some bad news. My A1C blood sugar was almost 12 and my blood pressure averaged about 190/110. They wanted to admit me right then and there, but instead gave me a shopping bag full of medications. Since my wife had her stroke I haven't really been taking care of myself and now it's come to a head. If I don't do a complete 180 I'll be dead before the year is out. I have committed to mall walking (exercising) seven days a week for 30 minutes a day and cutting my carbs and sugars drastically. Please pray for me or think of me as I try to save my own life. Thanks!

The numbers are rather high - but you can do it! You are young and there are medications out there these days that are very effective! Good luck!

prayers for you sweetie.. BUT I will also be sending you some info via FRMail

I am into holistic/natural as much as possible. That bag of drugs is yuk, yuk, yuk.

20 years ago I took my mom off ALL her perscrpt drugs when the docs gave her 4 months to live. She lived long & quite well thank you to 91 years of age & died lucid in her own bed w/o the “benefit” of the medical profession.

YOu do have to do some things physically of course.. but pumping in drugs IMHO is not the best option.

hang in there. I am not at computer with the files to send..

Put a picture of Helen Thomas on your refrigerator door. Keep another in front of you when you do manage to eat.

That would kill my appetite, I betcha.

Don’t make me come over there!

Seriously. Find a program you can deal with realistically and stick with it. It’s probably not as hard as you think.

As I said, my focus is not on MB. I’m not wishing it, but her “flavor of the month” status will taste bland within a few months. She’s a terrific lady, but her words are rarely inspiring. She doesn’t have the *IT* factor going for her.

I’ve lost almost 20 lbs in the past six months. I’m 48 and losing weight was never easy. I’ve still got about 40 to go.

I started by counting calories. The Jillian Michaels site is good because you can do a food log. This is imperative as you sometimes have NO idea of the calorie counts of what you are eating.

Know your calorie requirements and calculate how much you need to cut back to lose a specific amount. There are a lot of these type of calculators on the internet. I had to cut down to 1200 cals per day to start losing.

Then WALK. I started on my treadmill — first 20, then 30 minutes, now 45 to 50 per workout about 4-5 times a week. I’ve increased my speeds and tolerance over this entire year. I loaded up my favorite tunes on my I-phone and just walked to what I enjoyed listening to. I have a treadmill that tracks calories.

So, it’s good calories out and calories spent exercising — all leads up to pounds lost.

Once you get the weight off the HBA1C will come down, and so should the blood pressure. Also try to cut down on stress ... if you can. This is huge. Stress makes our bellies just expand.

I’m still working on it —shooting for a proper BMI. Look that up also. You need to be in the proper BMI range.

That’s it. I’m a cardiac RN and a fellow weight loss comrade. Will be working on it throughout this year to reach that golden BMI. Maybe we should start a Freeper weight loss group.

We need to be lean and mean to fight off the libs. :)

Old Crow Ping for one of our own.

Prayers up for and your family.

(Keep the Faith, my friends! We are the saviors of the Republic! Now and Forever!)

It’s very simple: take responsibility for your own health. that means eating less and exercising. Simple.

Gads! Keith and I are really sorry to hear that. We just saw your wife only a month or so ago, when she was fine. We hope and pray you and her will get much better quickly.

Dropping weight is very difficult, as we know, but it’s an essential thing to do.

God bless you, 2ndDivisionVet.

Prayers to you and your wife! Look up the DASH Diet (Dietary Approaches to Stopping Hypertension). Also helps diabetes. High fiber, low sugar, “good” fats”. I’ve been telling my dental patients about this for years. Go to your dentist and have a thorough exam for gum disease. Diabetes and high blood pressure EACH triple your risk of gum disease. Treating a gum disease condition will make your medications work more effectively. Chronic stress raises your cortisol levels, which in turn, raise your blood sugar levels. Get professional dietary counseling. Once your test levels improve, your doctor will probably need to adjust and lower your medication levels. Good luck to you! You can’t help your wife if you’re sick too.
