Honda and Subaru still make the best vehicles overall, but Ford posted the largest gain in the past year, improving in its road-test and reliability scores. General Motors and Volvo also improved in both areas. On the other hand, Mercedes-Benz is the only manufacturer whose scores dropped in both measures.
Our automaker report cards reflect the performance, comfort, utility, and reliability of more than 270 vehicles that weve recently tested. Here are other highlights from this years analysis:
Honda, Subaru, and Toyota are the top three automakers for the third year in a row. Most of their vehicles do well in our tests and are relatively trouble-free.

I own a Toyota and a Honda.
I’ll always own a Toyota...I don’t care how many Prius’ can’t stop on the highway.
Matchbox and you can’t beat their gas milage!
I grew up with GM, but now drive a Honda.
After extensive testing by a panel of experts, Consumer Reports found to be among the least reliable sources of accurate consumer information, finishing third behind AARP and the perennial leader, the DNC.
Yay Subaru! Love my new Outback.

I could not agree more!
“Volvo’s the only reliabile european car”... only keep them as long as the new car warranty is good, then sell or trade in.
My Dad retired from GM in 1981 and was a very loyal UAW member. I now drive a 2009 Chevy Malibu but also have a 2002 Ford Explorer to pull my boat. My wife drives a new Hyundai Elantra and it gets incredible gas mileage. I am pleased with all three vehicles.

My Outback SW went over a hundred thousand miles before I had one repair. Hard to complain.
Is Infinity (Nissan) mention?
My 96 Ford Explorer is a great car for my son.
We just bought a used travel trailer and we are trading in our 2005 Tundra for a 2007 one this evening. I refuse to buy a Government Motors truck or one made by the UAW.
CR is so Jap biased it stinks. One year they rated the Mitsubishi Eclipse far higher than the Dodge Stealth.
Hyundai was not mentioned in this report, but everything else I have read it seems they are rapidly passing or have already passed Honda, Toyota etc in reliability.
I have a Genesis Coupe and it is one of the best cars I have ever owned.
I second the Bimmer
My Volvo is 16 years old and is still running strong. I had the first major repair bill last year, when some plate underneath the car that protects the axle needed replacing.
I want a new car very badly and every time I persuade my husband to go car shopping the salesman remarks, “but you aren’t going to get rid of this car, are you?” “ This car can easily do 200,000 miles.” or “This car is in such good condition and it’s the best model that Volvo ever made.”
I just want a new car with all the new interior amenities, - LIKE CUP HOLDERS! LOL!
hippie!!!..... :)
Same here, and I’ll never even look at GM again.
